Has anyone who's been diagnosed....?!

Question: with ADD/ADHD and is taking medication... realized that now you're able to sit all the way through a show/movie and enjoy it?

I couldn't sit through any shows before...i would get really bored and switch channels the whole time.

Oh yeah, most definitely. Mine had been left untreated for years because my father was one of those idiots that refused to put me on medication - apparently he much rather preferred having to come to school all the time when I was in trouble for not sitting still or not shutting up because I couldn't focus or pay attention. It seems that it didn't bother him that I never got to participate in much of anything because I was always in detention or in school suspension or Saturday school or some kind of disciplinary thing.

When I turned 18 I was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder type 1 with psychotic features as well as severe OCD, sometimes acute paranoia (I think God hates me and does stuff to me on purpose), dellusions of granduer (I made the mistake of telling a judge once that I could run the country if the powers that be would give me the chance), and if I stop my meds I may or may not have visual or auditory hallucinations. I had a psychotic break when I was 22 and spent 17 days in the local psychiatric ward. However, that led me to find a new psychiatrist and she is wonderful. I have been with her for three years now (the longest I've ever kept the same doctor) and she has been able to get me on good medications and has done very well at keeping them regulated (I have also been on the same medications for three years now). However, no one was willing to treat the ADHD until the bi-polar was stable and stayed stable for an extended period of time.

Finally I was stable and stayed that way long enough to satisfy her and she put me on Adderall to help with the ADHD. I still have to be doing multiple things at one time, i.e. I can't just watch t.v., I have to be knitting or sewing or working a puzzle or something, but I can watch an entire show and understand and enjoy it. Like you I can also go to the movies now which is something I could never do before. I can also get started on a task and finish it because I can stay focused on what it is that I am doing until I complete it. It has been the greatest thing that has happened to me in the past 9 years, and I am thrilled that the doctor finally decided to step up and start treating it.

aw well good for you

Believe it or not, the meds made me too anxious. I figured out I was better off without them. I just have to keep busy all the time.

All three of my brothers have, and now they're grades are improving from failing to merit role! Who knew, right? Funny how my sister and I (the women) don't have it while the men (dad included) do... (Just kidding I don't discriminate against sexes).
