All of need to know. How do you know if you have multiple personality disorder?!

Question: Some information from Mayo Clinic below. Full article at the citation link.

Symptoms:
* Memory loss (amnesia) of certain time periods, events and people
* Mental health problems, including depression and anxiety
* A sense of being detached from yourself (depersonalization)
* A perception of the people and things around you as distorted and unreal (derealization)
* A blurred sense of identity

Dissociative identity disorder. This condition, formerly known as multiple personality disorder, is characterized by "switching" to alternate identities when you're under stress. In dissociative identity disorder, you may feel the presence of one or more other people talking or living inside your head. Each of these identities may have their own name, personal history and characteristics, including marked differences in manner, voice, gender and even such physical qualities as the need for corrective eyewear. There often is considerable variation in each alternate personality's familiarity with the others. People with dissociative identity disorder typically also have dissociative amnesia.

Do you have big blank periods of time? Do you ever find yourself somewhere and have no idea how you got there? Multiple personality disoder, now called dissociative identity disorder, is extremely rare. The odds of you having it are next to nil.

A lot of us have many facades of our personality that shine through at different stress levels and excited points in our lives. These are just part of who we are. If you have a split personality you probably will have times when you cant remember what you were doing for a day or two or even for a brief time, due to the fact that when an alternate personality appears it takes over your mind and body and is like a coping mechanism. We all experience ups and downs and smile and cry , but if you feel that you do suffer from split or multiple personality disorder then you need to seek help from a professional... lots of luck

u go see a doctor

Just to clarify, dissociative disorder is very rare, i agree with the poster above. People do try to fake having it, but often cant get it right (not saying this is what you are doing). When you have DID, your other personalities are not aware of each other, you will like said above, have times when you end up somewhere and not know how you got there, or what day it is. One day you are jane, the next day for an hour you are mary. People with DID usually have more than 2 personalities that are never fully aware at the same time. Go see a psych. they can help you more. You may be experiencing a type of mania.
