There are 3 standard theories which are in the abnormal psych textbooks.
1) cultural acceptance: if the culture says that homosexuality is totally wrong, doctors and psychologists may diagnosis it as a disorder
2) disability/dysfunction: if the person cannot perform daily tasks like eating, sleeping, working, socializing,etc, then it is considered an abnormal problem
3) Subjective distress: if the person feels awful and knows that theres something wrong, that alone can be enough to be considered abnormal.
