What is OCD?!

Question: My best friend recently confessed that she had OCD for a couple years and had to even be hopatilized because of it. I realize that there are websites out there that tell you what OCD is, but I am still confused. She was depressed last year, tried to kill herself, and is still very emotional. Does this have anything to do with OCD?

Thanks

OCD stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's where they do things obsessively and have to do certain things perfectly, such as touching doorknobs a certain number of times before walking in the door, or rearranging furniture until it is perfectly straight, or other strange habits like that.

yes .. ocd is obsessive compulsive disorder........ lots of people have it but not all have it so severe .... it can litterally drive u nuts

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-its like when you have to pick something up 5 times before using it or you have to flip the light switch 2 times or shut the door 3 times before shutting it

obsessive compulsive disorder

I suspect she's been acting like she has because her medication was either too strong for her or was one of the ones that they are considering (or maybe have already) taken off the market, or she was alergic to the medication.

As I've heard, OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder. Like washing the hands it's not sufficient for them to just wash the hands once they have to do it more times to make sure the hands are clean. Or when the mood hits them they will phone you several times, not just once, and will hang on for dear life to a person or an idea or a thought forever even though the thought or idea is not rational.

Some people say depression can be controlled by lots of sunlight and fresh air, walks, and the B vitamins, but of course a multiple vitamin with minerals would be good as well.

OCD can cause depression. The obsessive part is when a person has scary thoughts they cannot control but they know the thoughts are irrational. The compulsive part is when they do things repetitively such as hand washing, turning a light on so many times, etc. A OCD person is convinced they must do these things or something bad will happen. A person with OCD may have just the obsessive part or the compulsive part or both. It can cause much anxiety which in turn will cause depression. The good news is that OCD and depression is highly treatable with therapy and medication.
