Opposite drug reactions and mental illness?!

Question: I thought I'd read something about this a long time ago, but now I can't remember...
Is there any connection with an illegal drug having an opposite effect (i.e. cocaine making you sleepy) and having a mental illness?

I believe there are some mental health disorders that will screw up an anticipated buzz from illegal drugs.

This is not to say that every person with a particular disorder will always get the opposite effect of a drug though (for example, even though alcohol is considered a depressant, lots of folks say booze helps them feel better--at least for the short term buzz).

A few examples:

Sometimes folks with severe ADHD will only focus better but not get the high they are hoping for with stimulants.

Schizophrenia can be very unpredictable as to how drugs are tolerated.

If I recall correctly, folks with bipolar disorder can have unpredictable reactions to illegal drugs.

sleeping pills make me hyper and aggressive

beer gives me blood lust <WANT TO SEE DEATH AND FIGHTING> INSTEAD OF MAKING ME HORNY AND TIRED

caffiene makee me tired and grumpy plus gives me headache

luvox etc make me agressive and depressed

I have ADHD and always have had weird effects from different medications. Ones that were supposed to make me sleep didn't do that. Caffine and other stimulants would make me tired. Everyone reacts differently to medications, whether or not they have mental illness.

My ex became schizophrenic when he started using cocaine. I ended up in a women's shelter, where I found out that EACH AND EVERY woman in that shelter had run away from their cocaine addict spouse. They (the men they escaped from) all had the same symptoms as my ex did.

So it is my understanding that coke will make you schizo.

My medication side-effects include hyperglycaemia.
I get symptoms of hypoglycaemia with them.
Caffeine makes me tired.
