this is certainly NOT strange. many people rock themselves to sleep at night or shake themselves gently in some way. it is a form of comfort because of growing up in the womb and the vibrations we felt before we were born as our moms moved. mothers instinctively comfort their children by cuddling and rocking, gentle bouncing and patting. some people sleep in the fetal position, some suck their thumb (yes, even adults), i knew one woman who bounced her head face down on the pillow.
if you want to stop doing this then you will have to consciously & continuously work on it for about 30 days at least. every night refrain from shaking yur head. try soothing music or cds of poetry or bible readings. yu will probably have a lot of sleepless nights and an increase in yur anxiety levels during the day so yu will need to learn to use prayer and meditation to calm yurself. tell yur family and friends what yu are doing so they will understand and support you.

know that yu do not have to stop, it might just not be worth it and besides it is not weird in the first place and nothing is "wrong" with yu.

How & when did you discover this?
If it's a new thing, it sounds psychological, if not, it's habitual behaviour...I don't know if there is anything wrong with you or not but it certainly is odd!

Wow that's different, have you talked to your doctor, chances are theres nothing wrong with you, maybe its just the psychological factor that you've done it so long that when you don't do it makes you feel like you've forgotten something!

im a psychology student, it sound like you have taught yourself that this is how you fall asleep. Try not doing it for a few days your body will get tired and you will fall asleep without having to do it, even if it takes a few hours to start with

no we all have our weird little sleeping habbits, my daughter twirls her hair around her finger, i dont know how many times ive had to cut it because its got stuck wrapped around her finger, i have to sleep in the exact same position every night and my boyfriend sleeps in 40 minute blocks, then wakes up has a smoke and goes back to sleep, he does that because he used to work on a prawn boat and thats all they can sleep for, but everyone does things like that

Your seriously going to scare the crap out of the woman when you first sleep in the same bed! dont expect her to be there in the morning!

Sounds very strange to me. You can't try just
counting sheep, listening to soothing music,
drinking warm milk or something of that
sort?

I dont think shaking your head can be good for you.
depends how long you do it,and how hard you shake your head.

If your head is still connected to your body when you shake it then it probably does no harm. Probably just Shakeaheadyitis or bonceagitaters syndrome.

i dont think theres anything wrong with you. probably just something you started to do when you were young and it has just.. stayed with you :)

i thud my head on the pillow. have done since i stopped thudding the wall.

I would not say that something is wrong with you but I would say that something just "ain't right".
