Why such a strong correlation between adult addiction and childhood abuse?!

One major thing: not everything you see on t.v. is real. But, to answer your question, there is a slight correlation between childhood abuse and adult addictions, but slight. There is still a substantial number of adults who were victims of abuse that are not dealing with addictions as adults. Some addicts were abused, not all that were abused are addicts.

addiction becomes a way of coping. it is a way to numb the emotional pain and confusion for a little while.

child abuse can trigger a chemical inbalance. addiction is actually the brains way to protect itself from harm caused by anxiety, or trauma. addiction is not good, but it works! and so does counseling and meds.

because that is your systems way of dealing with terrible things that happened as a child....people deal differently with abuses....i have post traumatic stress disorder...things that happened to me 35 years ago...
