Lexapro.....A LIVING HELL!!!!????!

Question: I am looking for anyone who has ever been on this medication and ever quit taking it.

I was taking it for 3+ years for panic disorder. The panic attacks never got much better so.... I opted to quit the Lexapro because of that and other side effects, ie, constant fatigue, lowered libido and the like. I spoke with my doctor and he recommended a "weaning schedule" which I followed to the letter. BUT here's the "Fun" part:

The first weeks of being completely off the meds, I felt pretty good, then the withdrawal symptoms really kicked in. Electrical shock feelings everytime I move my eyes, crying jags, thoughts of suicide (no one panic - I have a wonderful partner who is helping me make sure that these are only thoughts) sweats, hot flashes, chills, aches and pains, dizziness that is so bad that I sometimes cannot even stand. And this is just the beginning - I cannot relate the fear that I get that this will never get any better.

Anyone else out there ever gone through it?

I have gone through this numerous times w/ meds such as 50 mg Paxil umm...lexapro...wellbutrin and then paxil cr....It goes away. But you must stand up and fight..Fight it like someones trying to take your life! And if you have trouble comprehending that right now imagine someone you care deeply about having to live without you...Fight for that...It is like your posessed. I often wonder what it really is..Doeasnt it feel like someone has replaced the real you...sometimes. Also watch your sugar and caffiene. Give it a full month...Don't drink excessively. You may want to try a natural approach ,...Do light yoga...get a DVD or on demand comcast...So lt. yoga..st. johns wart and maybe some Valarian root. Take a multi vitamin and maybe a b-6 and b-12 supplement. I'm seriously considering going that route.

I took it several years ago for depression and as I recall, the doctor told me it took several weeks to completely build up in my system. Maybe it will take that long (or longer) to get it all out. I'm sure it will get better...hang in there!

I definitely hated Lexapro. I only ended up being it for a few weeks because my side effects were so bad. The suicidal thoughts and hallucinations scared the s**t out of me.

I honestly cannot tell if these are withdrawl symptoms or part of a disorder. You might want to check into that, there is a website with some good information, check it out there.
