Why do i feel this way? Do you? (please read on)?!

Question: I made the decision a long time ago not to watch the news. I decided this because i get so terribly upset about things. But this morning i happened to turn on the t.v to hear a bit of news about the wind turbines creating a hole above so that things are not picked up on Radar- potentially an inlet for terrorists. This triggered my emotions and made me cry. When i hear what mankind is doing to the planet, it scares me. I cry when i see effects of global warning and people's ignorance to it. I feel hurt every time. When crime is reported on the news i cannot controll my emotions. I have a very good imagination and i think that is why i get so upset. Am i going mad? If you can imagine how i am feeling right now and be kind with your answers i would appreciate it. Thank you.xx

I totally understand that. I used to be a bit of a news junkie. When Jessica and Holly were missing, and later found murdered, I remember staying up all night just to watch the developments in the case because it upset me so much. It's the only time I ever remember waking up in the middle of the night to switch on the tv for news. I realised then that I get too involved and I have since curbed my news watching. It is hard to stay detached but our emotional reactions just mean that we are human.

I know what you mean. I hate watching the news or even watching movies about war. I too get upset about the state of the planet and also because most people just aren't very nice to each other.

Not sure why this happens. I too am imaginative and also very sensitive. If other people are having an argument I get really upset.

I have suffered froman anxiety disorder for years. It has only recently improved. I think my general anxiety and my sensitivity causes me to over-react to world events.

Maybe the same is true for you?

everything seems to be,easy or easier now for terrorists, its scary.
evil finds its way,but I believe in God,and God is more powerful than Satan.

You're not mad, just very empathetic! It's a rare and precious quality! I no longer watch the news for the same reasons as you... So no you're not the only one!

People are FAR from ignorant about global warming,it's thrown down our throats every day.Problem is it's us lot who have to pay to improve things and alot of us cannot afford the extra cost!
The world is in a very bad way and it all stems from greed and most of us feel powerless to even improve the situation.

I think you are just a very caring person, and quite sensetive too, which is why these thing affect you more than most people. I also feel that way sometimes, though I usually don't cry because I don't connect with situations that don't effect me in such a way. I think the fact that you truelly care is a good thing, just don't let it get you down. If you see something that makes you sad on the news, try to find out if there's something you can do about it, and then do it.

No you are not going mad.You are just extra sensitive to things happening around you.

YOU get upset about these things but how does that help anything that is going on?NO ONE CARES!! Get involved in doing something to save the earth, get involved in a group that is helping global warming.Every little bit helps but getting upset doesn't!And this is the truth and I hope it doesn't hurt!

I suspect you may be empathic. It may prove helpful to realize/remind yourself, that the pain of others is not your pain. You may have trouble distinguishing between the two at times. Empathy, a good thing, can be a bit overwhelming when not kept in perspective.

Don't worry, you're exactly like me. I made that promise to myself when I was seven. You're not crazy, you just have an appreciation for the environment and well being of mankind, and your imagination makes you think about what could happen ten years from now, and even further. I get uncontrollable feelings too. You're not alone, and certainly are not mad.

In know what you mean. The news is very depressing.

First of all, kudos on your big heart. Second of all, don't be afraid of the things that are happening in the world. The media doesn't report the whole truth anyway. I suspect you wouldn't watch the news if the opposite were true. For example, "And today another do-gooder saved the 300th cat from a tree. This breaks our weekly record of acts of random kindness this week. Keep up the good work folks and be well." My point is, we have to find the balance in our lives, work to change the world into a better place and not give the terrorists or the media what they want, that being mass hysteria and total dependence upon a group of people somewhere capitalizing off of our fears. Channel all of that empathy you have inside into some kind of community project and share the love you have inside with others around you. Attitudes are contagious, so pay it forward.

Hi Shirley Anne.....been there and done that!!! It's only a faze tht you are going through. You are realising it now and you have to work on accepting that this is the way life has become and it is out of our control. All we can do is do as much as we all can but we can not control others to do their share, it is up to them I suppose.

I used to get so depressed years ago and I realised that it wasn't good for my health......I don't watch that much news but when I do I only watch it in small doses just to keep in touch with what is going on and then I just change the channel and I don't get into deep conversations with others anymore......I just don't dwell about it as much anymore.
