Whats a good way to beat depression?!

Question: Post this on yr fridge and look at it daily:

"SECURITY IS BEING ABLE TO LIVE IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT ONE CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT"

Break your day up into hour slots or if an hour sounds too long and demanding break that hour up into 15 minutes slots and just cope with that next slot of 15 minutes. make a target, like sort the fridge out and go do it. Then rest, Next thing make your lunch, this will be another 15 mins gone etc.

Give your self realisitc targets, just small ones are huge steps when you are depressed. Can you get out the house? If so popping to shop is a huge achievement.

Set some goals - a bit like a funnel but with the bigger end on the right and the tip bit on the left. You can break this down into 10 columns - the first 7 are for the first week (one day per column) next 3 columns are for next 3 weeks and fill the space with achievable goals. It could be making a telephone call - this is a big thing for anyone feeling low.

Depression is a chemical imbalance which needs attention. Make call to Dr. What about work ? R U covered with any medical insurance via them ?

As much as you may feel it doesn't work - go swimming if you can get out, it releases natural hormones and helps restore the balance.

The old saying "laugh and the world laughs with you.......... cry and you cry alone" is very true. You need to discover why you feel this way and start to live a life without restraint. This is a debilitating illness speak to someone please.

I wish you well. :)

Get out an help others. Volunteer for something. It really works! I'm serious.

watch like 5 chick flicks in a row while eating pixie sticks and drinking chocolate milk!! works everytime, good-luck!!

Cognitive Behavior Therapy seems to work best.

There is an inexpensive book that will walk you through it. It was written by a Stanford psychiatrist named David Burns. The book is called,"Feeling Better, The New Mood Therapy." Dorky name, excellent book.

Switch your music to a more postive, up-beat style. I have known several people who went through depressed stages because they had just "discovered" and were listening to bands like Evanescence, Pearl Jam, and Dashboard Confessional a lot. Once they stopped listening to that genre of music their attitudes and outlook on life improved greatly.
