The answer is in the question...
"I am not my illness...".
you're not your illness its something that happens every once in a while.
if you freak out about your illness, then so will other people. If it happens and you let it go, take it your stride, make any necessary apologies if people had been upset in the episode.
Then people will think its not a big deal and that you've got it under control. If you panic, they panic, if you think its an issue, it becomes an issue, if you're cool they're cool.
You've got more power than you think, use it cleverly and wisely.
Now go create...

PS: I know you're worried that people will think you're a "freak with mental issues". Take a look around you, who isn't.
We all have our own crazies, and the one who is quick to point the finger, usually has more than their share of issues.
Think about that!!!

no need to tell them.if you start to panic, take your meds. you can just say that you are a little high strung and laugh about it. you dont have to advertise it if you dont want to.

Your mental illness is a personal issue, should you choose to share this info than you are subject to people opinions and beliefs. You get to make the choice who you tell, pick and choose wisely.

You should never have to tell someone that you suffer from any kind of disorder unless you want to. You're going to have to come up with something to say that others will not react the wrong way. Say something like, "My blood sugar level is off a bit, I'm going to have to take a rain check for now"

There is no reason to tell anyone - just keep your medication with you and when you feel a panic attack coming on, excuse yourself, take a pill and chill for a bit. I find 20 minutes will calm me down. You could confide in a good friend you can trust - that way, they can cover for you while you are recovering in another room. Good luck to you.

You are not alone! Just always remember that! You don't have to tell anyone your issues unless you want to. If you feel like you need to tell them just say you have panic/anxiety issues and move on! Who cares? Don't worry about being labeled as a "freak" you are what you are! If people dont' like you the way they are then you don't need em! Good Luck!
