Am I being selfish?!

Question: Last year around this time I was in a deep depression after my grandma's death. I got a dog and he cured my blues and so did the 2 kittens I rescued 3months ago. now we're being evicted and my family wants me to get rid of my cats and i cant cuz they are my life. Im moving from cali to no. carolina and to pay for the dog and cats will be pricey but once we get there we have a place to live in. Please help me. I feel like i'll go back into my depression if I give them up. how can i get my family to see this

Your pets ARE a part of your family and your parents should understand this...Simply sit down and reason with your parents, if you can convince them you'll pay for everything for them (even if it means paying them back) and that you'll take full responsibility in caring for them, then maybe they'll consider it. You're not being selfish at all, I'd be upset too if I was forced to give up something that made me extremely happy and became a part of my life.

If your parents are worried about the cost of the pets that much, then maybe the animals can stay with a family member or close friend until you've saved up enough money to bring them into your home.

If worse comes to worse, tell them that if the pets don't go with them, you won't go either.

Good lucK!

Tell your family how important your pets are to you. Yes, the initial moving of the pets might be costly, but if they're good for your mental health, then your family needs to understand this.

Pets have long been proven to be therapeutic for a number of different health problems, both physical and mental. Stroking and petting a cat or dog can calm a person and even lower their blood pressure. There are bound to be loads of web resources Im sure you could show your family if they keep on about you getting rid of your kittens.

Best of luck to you.

No, you're not being selfish. Your animals helped you through a hard time in your life. We get so attatched to our pets anyway. I basically broke down when my mum wanted to take my cat to the pound. she still hasn't. She theatens to take my dog away from me and my dog is like my best friend.
Just tell your family what your cats mean to you. What they got you through. Even look up sites that say pets can be therapy companions.
I had to give up my dog when I was 15. I had him since I was 8. I was heartbroken for years.
So, fight to keep your pets.

It's hard, I know. Will you be able to find a place where the cats can live with you? Are you up to affording the new rego's (if you guys rego your cats over there like dogs?)? And the upkeep - espec if the no Carolina is a more expencive place to live than previous. How will the cats cope?

Think about the animals, not yourself for 5 mins (not calling you selfish at all, just need you to take a breather), and make sure it'd be worth them living with you. I'm sure you wouldn't get depression over it if you knew that your cats would have a happier life staying where they are :)

Good luck. Think it all through before making a decidion.

If you really have to leave your pets behind, find someone who will look after them and love them like you do, and keep in contact. You could also adopt other (smaller?) animals in North Carolina.

ooh well no that's not selfish because they can't tell you what to do this is your life live it to the fullest just don't do anything stupid....lol but make sure you make the right chose!!

OK!!!

there has been medical studies done that have concluded that pets help with stress etc. maybe if looked these up and confronted them with some hard facts they would be more willing to listen as long as they arent a nuissance (eg. tearin up the house etc.) and are bein taken care of properly no offence intended

try explain to them that you need the animals to make you feel better, that they are like your personal anti depressants!
try get them to understand. If they end up not lettin you keep them, and you get very depressed again they may bring the pets back. So don't worry , you'll be ok!

I also would not give up my pets. They have become a part of my family. I would bite the bullet, pay the fees for moving them and just do it.
