Bi-polar Question?!

Question: Has anyone here managed to control (at least to some degree) their mood swings and stay off medications?

I have physical health problems as well as bi-polar and I can no longer take medication and I am interested to know how others have coped?

Cheers

You have to be very in-tune with your body and completely honest with yourself.
When you know something isn't right, immediately evaluate what is going on-----are you doing too much? do you need to relax a bit? Are you thinking clearly? thinking realistically?
Be prepared and don't get frustrated with yourself if and when things get difficult----just work through them and take your time.
Family and friends are the best support anyone can have. Utilize them! Also, continue or start seeing a therapist. Even seeing someone just twice a month may keep you strong and able to stay motivated to do things on your own.

In addition, have you really looked at all of the options psychiatric medications have to offer for you? Have your medical doctor and psychiatrist been able to collaborate on this matter? If not, attempt to get the two physicians to work together for you. This is something that they should be willing to do in order to maximize the effectiveness of the medications.
Mental and physical health can go hand in hand------with frequent mood swings, anxiety, and lack of sleep, you may find that your medical issues don't resolve as well as planned.

You are a strong person to even attempt the bravery it takes to stop psych medications. It is possible, as everything is. "Mind over matter" and "where there's a will, there's a way!"

Are you currently being treated by a psychologist. I don't know your specific history so I can't make too many suggestions.

Have you talked to your doctor about taking a different kind of medication? It's very difficult to treat bipolar disorder using therapy based treatment only. You can definately help manage your mood swings with behavioral based therapy however. Good luck, God bless.

i have anxiety and manic depresion (wich is the original term for bi-polor)

and the funnything about it is i have never once took any pills for it and im just fine.

what no one gets now days is you can control your body all u want it only does what you tell it too whether sub conscience or in thought yo ucan control yourself.

im happy all the time and i have one of the worse cases of compression. the thing is, is all you have to do is fight back dont let it consume you.

also the first step of being happy with depression is dont blame any of your problems on depression because at the end of the day the depression is you, your problems are your own fault not your "chemical imbalance"

Here's a good website that may help answer your questions:

I am a mess with out medication. But that's me. I have 15 years of experience with this. I tried to force myself out of depression with out medication about six times. Every time I would eventually crash and burn and go back on meds. I will never do that again. But that's just me. Maybe you are stronger than me.
