What are positive and negative symptoms?!

Question: what are positive and negative symptoms in mental health and why are they called this?

Answers: what are positive and negative symptoms in mental health and why are they called this?

depends what kind of MH disorders are you talking about.
in formal, professional language positive and negative symptoms relate only to schizophrenia.
-positive symptoms then being delusions, hallucinations, formal thought disodrer (disjointed thoughs, neologisms), etc- those things that are 'too much';
- negative: (those that lack) paucity of speech, movement, facial expression, social withdrawal, lack of drive and spontaneity.

Positive symptoms include ones like delusions and hallucinations. Negative symptoms are ones like social withdrawal.

Positive and Negative symptoms relate to role in real life. A bipolar person can have a positive symptom of being clear about emotional wellbeing, but a negative symptom about being manic due to the negative affects it has on working environment. They are called this as a gage to see what the priority is for treatment. Basically drugs take care of symptoms and not an entire disease itself. So categorizing symptoms explains priorities of treatment for the doctor currently treating a patient and all those that might follow.

positive... orgasm
negative... headache

in m view its a very thin line between thinking for oneself and having a strong opinion to becomming obsessed and delusional it it about keeping things in perspective but not to the extreame at the detriment of others or oneself hard one really .
