Why do i always do this?!

Question: i have friends that i love to talk to and hang out with and stuff. but i just hate calling them and talking to them on the phone/ when they call me, i either dont pick up pr pick up and have very little to say. my conversations are just so boring on the phone. then my feelings get hurt when they stop calling me but i know its my fault. same thing with IM. i just dont like instant messaging people but rather talk face to face. is this common or is it just me? is this a sign of anti-socialness...or ism...w/e its called?

Well, be safe in the knowledge it is not an aspect of antisocial disorder or event avoidant personality disorder. :-)

It actually just sounds like you are a very empathetic (not empathic LOL people always confuse those) person that needs that human face-2-face interaction to be who are you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with you at all with regards to this. We have become a very impersonal society due to technology and you are bringing it back old-school. Good for you!

idk what its called..but its the same for me..except i dont mind IM id take that any day over a phone conversation..i get these little panic attacks and i just get really anxious to get off the phone..most times ill just hang up..then hop on IM and lie and say the phone went dead, or something like that. Its pretty weird though.

I'm the exact same way. I don't know why but I can't stand talking on the phone. I don't answer, my friends know not to call unless it's something important because I more than likely won't answer. It sucks and I feel bad. Unless like something really amazing happens...which is like once a year or something. I have instant messenger but I seriously have used them maybe 3 times. I'd love to talk to people but I just feel awkward talking like that. So you're not alone. I'm not sure if it's anti-social behavior or not. Because you still talk when you see them in person, right? But anyways, I definitely understand.

weird

I don't mind talking on the phone, but I prefer to talk to people in person. I hate IM, email, and answering machines... and I hate computerized answering systems that some companies use... I always try to talk to an operator. I love technology, but I can't stand computerized socialization... except forums like this...hmm...

Now I'm glad I'm not the only one like that....!!

I don't mind email though.

I find really intriguing how I always thought I was the one to do or think certain things, only to find out that it's actually very prevalent. This happened to me about at least five other things too :-)

For example this one is silly, but I thought I was the only one who turned down the sound at traffic stops if I were playing a silly pop song so people on the cars next to me wouldn't hear it, only to find out that a lot of people do the same thing. I stopped doing that now though ;-)
