What's up w/ Mother-in-Law?!

Question: I think she's too young for Alzheimer's (55-ish), but she can't remember ANYTHING! She doesn't have insurance, but my husband and I have offered to help pay her dr. bills. She is paranoid- tells people she's not welcome in our home, can't hold down a job b/c she can't remember anything. She used to call us all the time and come visit the kids, etc. But lately she just doesn't care- never calls, never comes up. Didn't even call us at Christmas and we've always been a close family. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have a loved one w/ Alzheimer's- does this sound like what you've experienced. It's heart breaking.

Maybe she should see a neurologist and get a catscan... has she fallen down or been in any kind of accident?? Or maybe something really painful happened and she's blocking all of her memories..

I would insist that she see a doctor... this could be something very serious. Better to catch it earlier rather than later.

Being easily distracted or having trouble remembering things can be a sign of depression. She needs to see a Dr.

Take your mother-in-law to a doctor ASAP and be with her during the appointment. Once she is at the appointment, it is possible that she will make light of issues that you know need to be addressed.

This does sound like what I went through (and am going through) with my mother, but she is much older and it's not not Alzheimer's. Your MIL needs a thorough evaluation. Please do it before she gets hurt or really sick from it.
