It would be easier for them to know so that they could understnad more of why you do it . however it doesnt hurt to have a doctor tell them if you just cant find the strenth to tell them , either way i am sure they would be worried but relifed that you asked for help before something more serious were to happen.

Just put the sharp thingies away and tell your parents. Tell them to help you out with it. It's not a good idea to cut yourself, cuz it's just...not. But definitely ask your parents for some help. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you.
If you are comfortable enough to tell them yourself I definitely would. [That's what I ended up doing] But if you don't, then maybe have someone you trust tell they with you there. Either way please tell someone soon, good luck.
