Yes, it is definitely a growing problem with no end in sight. Anxiety and depression are the two most rapidly growing disorders as society in any country makes great industrial advances. I don't think materialism or a welfare state is a major cause. There is great pressure on workers to be more and more productive. Salaries are not keeping pace with price increases in food, gasoline and food. Just "making it" becomes more stressful for many people. Remember too that where once we only knew what happened in our local area, we now get bad news from all over the world instantly.

i have been studying disorders over 13 years now, and i feel you hit the nail on the head. at least 1 in 3 has an addiction and at least 1 in 5 has a disorder. i think we live in too complicated of a society. and i'm not an anti technology freek either. your right.

Eh... IMO more like probably the stress of a society like this plays a huge part.

I think it is the break down of the family unit.

i think most of it isnt caused by the things going on in our life, i think a lot of it is caused by how we are harming ourselves! like the food we eat now, all the dyes and chemicals and things we cant pronounce like polysaturated this or hydrogenated that! or the fast food products or prepared foods, man was not made for happy meal. and then things like steroids in meat and milk and such. or like exercise, god i dont know how many people i know on a depression or anxiety med that doesnt exercise, i'd at least try exercise before i tried a medication. and the enviornment we live in. god if we all had good oxygen to breath im sure we would feel a lot better. things like factories and smog and so on. and then theres the medicine we put into our bodies that cause chemical imbalances. the medicine for your wieght loss or your erection problem can cause your other problems. and our seclusion, our cubicals, our computers and telephones, they all limit human interaction. we do it to ourselves

yes, i do believe it has a bit to do with our new society but then again, look at all the unnatural things we do to ourselves to cause our own chemical imbalances.
