Question: Its a friend of mine. She has been diagnsoed with psychosis NOS. What is psychosis NOS exactly? I know that NOS means "Not Otherwise Specified", but what is it exactly?

I should know this really, what with my experience of mental illness...ergh.

It's a lazy diagnosis by a doctor who is either unwilling or unable to provide a definitive answer. Your friend is experiencing some things that don't fit in with medically recognised conditions so the doctor has thrown his/her hands in the air.

Most often this diagnosis is used in place of one of the forbidden words. Schizophrenia.

Tell your friend to find a better doctor.
