Am I suppose to say mentally retarded or mentally challenged?!

Question: Help! I am writing a new resume and worked at a facility in the early 80's for the mentally retarded. Is this still acceptable or am I suppose to say mentally challenged?

The latest PC term to replace "mentally challenged" is "intellectually disadvantaged"

Dumb, I know.

I prefer "mentally disabled" or "people with mental disabilities".

use mentally challenged....it sounds more professional

The PC term nowadays is just Tards

You should put the person first, such as "a person with a mental challenge", "a person with mental retardation" "a person with a developmental delay"...

As the mother of a daughter and the sister of a person who's DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED!!!!! That is the correct term for a person who's cognitive ability does not match their chronological age. Mentally challenged can refer to someone's who has sustained brain damage after the fact. Like from a car accident or other out side force.
