How do I get to sleep without medication?!

Question: Hello, I have been concerned a lot lately about my sleeping. I have struggled with extreme anxiety since the age of 16, and
shortly after I began struggling with sleeping. My first "episode" (that is what I like to call them) with insomnia happened when I was 17- I went almost a week without
sleeping. I started to become frantic.
When I was 18, my doctor put me on Xanax and a sleep aid. And for the first time in a year I was able to sleep great! I took the medicines only at night and only when I needed them.
College took a toll on me. I was working full-time and going to college full-time, so if I didn't sleep at night- I knew it would be hell for me the next day. I started taking my sleeping medicine every night and have been doing so ever since.
I never take more than what I am suppose to, and it has worked out fine for me. But now I'm getting scared with all of the recent reports about sleep and anxiety medicine.

Does anyone have any advice? Please help!

Since you have taken the mdicine for a while, if you stop sudden, you may feel the different very abviously. For my suggestion, you can reduce the daily medicine step by step.

For example, the first 2 weeks, you do not take medicine once a week.

After that, the next 2 weeks, you try not to take medicine twice a week.

I would suggest you to drink some honey or have some herbal tea to substitue your medicine.

I hope by reducing your dose step by step, your body can then manage to adjust by itself.

For myself, I am doing some research and studies on Sleep Apnea,Insomnia,Snoring,OSA,Sleepless,Nar... Topics, if you would like to get further information, plesae feel free to visit my blog at http://sleepapnea-insomnia.blogspot.com

yes, read up on visualization and meditation, and go to your library and read some of Dr. Wayne Dyers books to help with the anxiety issues. drugs are not the answer!

Try meditation.. You can try a simple method like breathing in and out and try to concentrate on you breathing .. then may be you can later go on to other medatation methods.

You have the right to be informed - keep that in mind.

Anxilytics are beneficial for people in your situation; they can help with feelings of anxiousness, as well as providing assistance in situations when you need to sleep. However, rather than just relying on pills for aid, dual-treatment (drugs and therapy) can be beneficial for you. Similarly, you may even want to do away with drugs period, but that takes time.

Whatever your circumstance, make sure you get information on these matters; ask your doctor tons of questions. They went to Med school for a long time, and I'm sure they would love to answere questions.

If your medication is helping you, try not to worry.
It helps you feel rested so you can make the most of each day of your life. Many people take medications for their whole lives. If the quality of our lives is improved because of these medications, I think they are worth taking.
This is only my thoughts.

I recommend dr. barks remedy. its a floral remede thats totally natural. also just have a warm hot chocolate

so goodluck with the sleeping

DRINK HORLICKS,IT REALLY WORKS. IT HELPS U SLEEP.I DIDT BELIVE IT UNTILL I TRIED IT FOR JOKES AT A SLEEP OVER,THEN I WAS DOZING B4 EVERYONE, AM USALLY THE LAST 2 SLEEP. I FELT REALLY RELAXED. I HAD THE SAME PROBZ AS U.AND I STOPPED TAKING PILLS, THEY HAVE EXTREME SIDE EFFECTS

I feel the same way. I have tried to go a night without the medicine and I actually could sleep. Try it if your doc thinks it is ok. Otherwise, lots of people take meds for many different ailments. You may have to just take it because sleep is impt. Good luck.

best way to do something without drugs is simply to stop using the drugs. cant sleep? lay off the sleeping pills, and possibly start drinking excessive amounts of caffeine. it's expensive, but 1-3 energy drinks a day is a good way to sleep at night, since your body will not want to be awake without the caffeine.
