Do people with borderline personality have the ability to make a solid choice ab!

Question: I want to leave my husband because we fight so often, due to my emotions, BPD, etc. I want out of the marriage, even though he has started to turn around and try to get to know me. we cheated on each other, often, and moving past that has been more difficult than i planned. i don't want to hurt him, anymore. leaving will do that, of course. especially since he is trying so hard. i know i should continue working on it, but my heart and my soul just doesn't want to follow my head. opinions???

He blames everything on the BPD and rarely sees my emotions, especially bad ones towards us, as anything but the disorder. and that really, really bugs the **** out of me....i dunno. wanted to add that.

what if i leave him and find years later that it really was all the confusin BPD emotional, thoughts against him, etc? we have kids and the house is a bad placefor them when we fight, almost daily. but what's worse...divorce and or an aggressive marriage displayed to the kids???

Holey Moley, I'm confused! I believe the question is regarding Borderline Personality Disorder not Bipolar.

I was diagnosed with BPD about 4 years ago and it is possible to get better. It takes persistance and a strong will to get to the point that you believe you deserve to be well and feel joy again.

I left my husband this year and my daughter and I have never been happier. A husband that throws it in your face over and over again doesn't sound like part of the healing process to me.

If you haven't done DBT (treatment). Try it, if it doesn't take the first time, try it again and again (it takes time to re-train your thought process).

Also, It's my opinion that, constantly arguing in front of the kids is never better than divorce. Kid's need a soft place to fall and that should be their home.

best wishes

How old are you? BPD usually improves with time, if he is willing to stick it out with you, get into therapy and you will get better, I did.

It is important to go to a therapist to figure out how to best cope with this, both through therapy and medication. That way, you will not wonder later if you made the right choice. This will help both you and your family. best of luck!

Yes ! people with BDP can make decisions about their marriages.
It seems like you really do want to end your marriage . If this is true ,then do it . save you , your husband and the children the grief of living in a bad situation .
If you really feel he doesn't understand you , what makes you think he'll change. Whatever you decide , Good Luck to you.

BPD does NOT get better with time. Some types of Bipolar Disorder do, but that isn't BPD (just to clear up what the other person said).
People with BPD are manipulative and selfish. They know exactly what they are doing and of course have the ability to make choices just like anyone else. It's a personality disorder, not a psychosis.
It is far better for the kids to come from a broken home than to live in one.
End your marriage and do your kids a favor.
