Question: On a mental health ward? Im asking on behalf of a friend whom im very concerned about. I myself have been on a mental health ward for afew days respite when I was about 21years of age through depression and anxiety(bad eating disorders leading to self harm etc) or does she have to have someone section her? Please can anyone with genuine knowledge answer this question? Thannks so much. M. She would go into hospital, but circumstances and family relationships/commitments means she doesnt want to burden them, long story......... so I just leave you with the ? and hope someone can give true answer.

It is called a voluntary admission and yes you can. I have done it myself a few times in similar situations. Just go to a local e.r. or urgent care and say what you told us here....or call the local community mental health center and ask to speak to the on call worker or crisis worker...hope it helps.

She can go to a hospital emergency room (you could go with her if that would be easier) and the MDs there can decide if she needs to go to their mental health facility.

Find out first if the hospital you're going to HAS a mental health section. If it does you can go to the emergency room.
