Was it bad to admit this, especially with others around?!

Question: I'm really soft-spoken, quiet, even somewhat shy, especially at work. I had a severe asthma attack at work recently and they had to call an ambulance, which attracted a lot of attention b/c everyone was concerned. Almost a week later I returned to work. A lot of people have been asking how I was. When I have a break, I have to rest my head on the desk b/c I'm still not feeling great.. One woman came up to me and was talking about her son who had asthma as a kid. She said I have it worse than he did but gave me a few tips to help. Also acknowledged that the attention I got probably wasn't beneficial for me. Softly, I started to confide in her and admitted that I've been terrified to call an ambulance and scared to have an attack at work. Also admitted that I was embarrassed about the whole ordeal.

Was it bad to admit those feelings to her, especially with a few other people around?

No, I think it probably did you good to talk about it rather than trying to deal with it by yourself. It sounds like she was a sympathetic listener who understood what you're going through.

It takes a lot more courage to admit you're afraid than to pretend you're fine.

no... it was good to admit it...

of course not! i cant imagine why it would be bad!?

No its ok you need to be open sometimes! Its ok.

if i were her, i would feel honored that you would feel comfortable confiding in me. i think others will respect you more for your courage.

You are very withdrawn with people if you're thinking twice about something like this. What negative repercussions could come of you speaking openly to her?

no you are not the only one... i know a lot of people who doesn't like to go to the hospital...

of course not its fine to open up . its good to talk . you may even gain a new friend.

Its good to speak your mind, don't hold things inside because you're embarrassed.

NO not a all, you are just as human as the next person and this should not be any big thing. If it happens again owe well thats the way it goes but don't be embarrassed about any thing. You want other people to know what you are going through so they know what to do if it happens again.

This woman made the initial gesture to talk to you and show you she was concerned.

You obviously felt comfortable with her to open up and explain your fear of having an anxiety attack at work.

Maybe this event will lead you not to be so shy, soft-spoken and quiet at work.

I think this may have opened the pathway for you to start talking to and trusting others.

nope!

I understand how you feel, there are some people in this world that are quiet and conservative and don't like to draw attention to themselves but there is nothing wrong with admitting your discomfort to someone, you haven't said anything wrong you were just expressing your anxiety. You needed the medical care that day and if anyone claims otherwise at your job than that is their problem and not yours.
