What do you do when you can't sleep?!

Question: It's been over a month since I've slept more than a couple of hours. I lost my mother just over 2 weeks ago after a very short time knowing that she was dying. It was almost 2 weeks from the day of diagnosis. It's really tough.

Sweetie, these are some of the toughest times to deal with. You know my email address and let's plan a phone call soon....OK? Whatever I can do to help. Eat a little snack before bed, try to read or watch tv and try to concentrate of one of those without letting your mind wander.....it is so difficult but YOU ARE A SURVIVOR...you have proven that to me so many times. I have faith in you.?

wow thats really hard. i'm sorry for your loss. maybe you should see a psychiatrist for some medication that can help you sleep. if u want to talk online on aim my screename is TheBTPYoda. i'm up late at night a lot too. sorry again for your loss.

sorry about your mom :(
whenever i cant sleep i usually have a snack (a small one) and watch a few minuets of television and then try to go to sleep
if nothing helps maby you should get sleeping pills my dad takes those and they help him a lot

if you metitate it helps you calm down and become stress free so just relax and try to go to sleep. also pray your mom will help you out. sorry for your lose of your mother

Oh, I am so sorry. I can understand your problem and not being able to sleep is not uncommon after what you have gone through. A psychologist can be of real help. I had insomminia once for two months. It was because I was bothered about something. First, be sure you are really tired before you go to bed. If you fall asleep to the TV then put the TV on a sleep timer and see if this helps. There are tapes & CD's of ocean sounds that may be of help putting you to sleep so check these out. If you have turkey for dinner, it will make you more tired and relaxed before you go to sleep. Try some warm milk just before bedtime. Sleepytime tea may work too. You have a lot on your mind. In time you will be able to sleep but right now I think you may need a professional to talk to. I hope you feel better soon. I know it is difficult losing a parent. Good luck.

1. I drink a couple of glasses of red wine.
2. This trick always works for me. Try and find a nature/animal show on The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet or PBS. Especially the ones with underwater sea creatures. The show called NATURE on PBS always gets me. Between the Deep, Soothing voice of the Narrator, the sound of the ocean water, whale song, and the slow sad music that usually accompanies these undersea specials, it knocks me out for the count EVERY time.

God love you.................do you have anyone close to confide in? I was in your situation, but its been years...please talk it over with a friend, family member ...someone you trust. Moms are so special and very sad to lose.

When my Grams died I wanted to crawl in the coffin with her... I could not imagine my life without her...In 3 days it will be one year...and I miss her as much today as I did a year ago... She was my best friend..my world for most of my life...and even today I looked at her picture and burst out in tears...I have to remind myself that love never dies...and as long as I remember her with love she lives on through me....As your Mom lives on through you....

As for the sleeping part...I have never really been good at sleeping...I know that sounds silly, but it is true...I come here, I write, I crochet, I read, I hook rugs, and I call my 3rd shift friends...and I pray....actually, I pray a lot...
I love you Sweetie.....
Peace be with you.

You are in grieving so just go easy on yourself. Try to find a "listening ear" . As you unleash your questions and pain to someone who will listen, you will find the release.

There is a supplement 5-HTP or St. John's Wort that you can take before bedtime to help (if you aren;t on anti-depressants).

I am so sorry for your loss. I
