you describe what seems like bipolar. bipolar usually does not get full blown symptoms at your age. you even describe a possible borderline personality. but borderline is much more serious and destructive. what makes me even remotely consider the borderline personality is the cutting. if you cut to relieve pressure and not just for attention then it could be something more than bipolar. your a smart 12 year kid to be addressing this issue the way you are. get help now and stay on your meds when you get them and you can really help yourself to a much more normal life than what could await you if you don't. and please don't rebel against what the "grown up shrink says" . people in the medical profession truly say what they say because they want to help you. but what you describe can be complex to pin point at your age. I think you are wise to assume bipolar so please see a psychiatrist...good luck, and again that is great you are facing this in the realistic way..oh! don't even think about trying drugs or alcohol cause you are heavily prone to addiction. ..john

I'm not sure, but there definitely appears to be a drastic range of emotions and such, which is related to the illness. I can sorta understand where you're coming from with that - and its not very pleasant.
Does the counselling at all help?
If so, then that's a start, but it also might be a good idea to talk to a doctor if you haven't already.
I think that it depends on your perspective on the matter; if you think you can handle it yourself or throuhg counselling then go for it. But if you think that medication might be an option (only after a proper diagnosis, which needs to be made from a doctor/psychologist/psychiatrist) then thats another option. Try talking to your mom or with your consellor.
Either way, I wish you luck.

well, here's the thing. you are only 12 years old...
meaning one: you're either GOING through puberty or you are in the first stages of getting into puberty.
i'm bipolar, i'm 17, and the only time i've ever ran away was when i got into a fight with my dad when i was like 15...and it was a stupid thing to do...but i came back that night..

bipolar disorder has three main parts.
1. depression
2. irritability that can result into just mild anger or complete rage, depending on the severity of the disorder.
3. well, we have our happy times....

so for developing unstable bipolar disorder it can jump from happiness to depression, happiness to anger, anger to happiness, anger to depression, depression to happiness and hyperactivity....etc.

depending on what you have said, you DO NOT have bipolar disorder because you seem to not have anger outbursts. and also...bipolar disorder is not a DISEASE, it's a DISORDER. i also have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder)...and i know ADHD can have it's advantages (without being adhd i swear i wouldn't be able to be funny) and well..bipolar disorder, eh...the manic high feelings are pretty amazing, but i've been stable for a year now so it's really not happening a lot.

i really think you are just getting ready to go through puberty. my girlfriend has had anxiety issues since her parents were divorced when she was like...i don't know maybe 6 or 8 because of her idiot dad...but she didn't develop her depression until after puberty...

but that being said, instead of going to a group or a counselor (i've been to two therapists and all they did was make me feel crappier. so i'm pretty biased on the issue) you need to go see a psychiatist. you DO NOT have bipolar disorder, so stop thinking you do because well, even though i'm a stranger, i have bipolar disorder and i can tell ya right now you do not have it since you are not angry. you may have depression problems FROM a genetic problem...you'll later learn in high school biology that in all scientific words....mental disorders(such as depression) is formed from a mutation in the DNA that your parents have passed down to you..and if something has ran through your family, they have given you the carrier mutation for that....like for example,
being deaf is from a genetic recessive gene...(or in some cases, birth defect)
colorblind can be a recessive gene IF (like all other conditions) it runs in your family.
mental disorders/learning disabilities/other disbilities ARE from a genetic mutation from the first parents that passed it down....
so basically, look at your family..i mean outside of your general family..i mean like yeah, if your dad has depression or your mom does...then look at their family. if anyone has had alcoholic problems before, depression, bipolar disorder, skitzo, OCD, the general mental disorder types....then yeah, you have a chance of having depression or whatever...but mostly it's probaby just hormones.

my mom didn't believe in me when isaid i was bipolar...then it turned out i did...after 2 months on antidepressants that increased my anger....she believed me.
just talk to your mom, sit her down and DONT yell at her. just talk to her....ask her for your support cause you don't know what to do and you are too young to know what it can be...so ask her to help you...ask her why she doesn't wanna trust you.

Sound like you need to talk to your doctor and get on some meds
