What are your methods for calming yourself down when.....?!

Question: My parents are in their 80's and either they're going to a board and care or somehow they're going to keep their house. I am on SSI (epilepsy and clinical depression) My half brother and sister (from my mother's first marriage when she was 18) are conspiring to leave my studio apartment. I am 45 and this lady from Adult Protection Services called me up last week and told me that she could make ONE phone call and cut me off on my SSI because my income doesn't help out with rent and ulities and my parents pay for my food and all that stuff. I am so scared I will be homeless (I barely sleep because my mind keeps running with my situation) I see a psychiatrist and a neurologist. If this woman makes that call, I will be in you know what creek. I can barely sleep and I pray every night. I barely have an appetite because I cannot force myself to eat because I am so worried about my future. This is a serious matter and any advice would be very welcome. Thanks.

LET HER CALL!!!
You will not lose your SSI, they have to perform an investigation, and even the, you are allowed to receive an income and SSI.
I'm noticing that there are more and more Social Workers that are threatening people with disabilities. The funny thing about it all is, aren't they the ones that are supposed to help us?

take a deep breath, make some tea......try and focus on something else.......try talking to your support.
take care

try taking a hot shower, lighting a candle, focusing on something else. i would also check to see if there's an independent living center close to where you live. there's one here and i know they have a specialist in ssi/ssdi and they might be able to give you some advice on that end. not positive but i don't think they can take it away because you're not helping contribute for living costs. could be wrong but it wouldn't hurt to find someone who can help you out.

cliche but true.....meditate....eat a lot even if you feel you dont have any appetite...take things easy as if you dont have no problem...dont be stressed out...follow these and things will soon get better..trust me..

Deal with the problem only when it needs to be dealt with.
Write down possible positive solutions as they come to me.

Distract myself several times a day with things that interest me.
Talk to other people, friends etc.
Arm myself with as much information about rights as a tenant.
Drink my food, have juices and health drinks that are easier for body to absorb rather than solid food. Have a lot of vitamin B.
Continue to pray and remember that other people care.
And think of the cosmic wheels.

Thats how I calm myself down when things come down on top of me like they have for you.
That is how I deal with such matters.

I would make a call to her supervisor. She had no right to make that call to you according to the information you have given here.

I would not go through her, you don't want her to know about this. There are ways to find out who her supervisor is. Or you can call your elected representative (country supervisor) in your country government and talk to them.

I would also record any conversations you have with her from this point forward. You need not tell her. This is not going to be used in a court of law, just as a weapon to kick her butt from here to hell and back if need be. That being done by her superiors and not you.

I would also be very humble with her. While you have some power in your court, nevertheless, she has to the power to turn your life into a living frigging hell in the short term.

Some good answers: I'm in Australia, and the system is different, so have nothing on that front. See anxiety treatments, at ezy build (below) in section 6. Set yourself a fixed limit for worrying about any particular subject, (say; 10, or 15 minutes) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even consider that subject again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. Use the technique for reprogramming negative thoughts and internal monologue (self talk), on pages 2, and 2L, to help you in this: some people carry a wide rubber band in their pocket: put it on their wrist; stretch, and release, as a means of reinforcing it, and speeding up the process, re-pocketing it afterwards, but I regard this as being purely optional. Practice one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris also refer: "Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself." INSOMNIA: See insomnia treatments, in section 3, at ezy build, below. Use one of the relaxation methods, in bed, after lights out, on pages 2, 11, 2.c, or 2.i, but they can take some time to learn, (progressive muscular relaxation excepted) so learn and become proficient in their use during the day; an alternative is to use the EFT, in section 53, and pages 2.q, and 2.o, saying to yourself: "Even though I currently have a sleep disorder, I deeply and completely accept myself." (or choose your own wording) while you use the acupressure tapping. Find out which works best for you, in the daylight hours, so you will be prepared, come bedtime. For many people, a good idea is to develop a set "wind down" routine for the last hour before bedtime, so your unconscious mind learns that it is time to put thinking aside, and prepare for mindfulness, (awareness, without cogitation/purposeful thought) or the EFT, in preparation for sleep, but the idea with mindfulness is to not even think about sleeping: just drift off, naturally, during exercising those techniques. ~~~ STRESS: See stress treatments, at ezy build, below on page 42. Practise daily, one of the relaxation techniques on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i; whichever works best for you, but the mindfulness breathing for 15 - 20 mns is ideal, although the progressive muscle relaxation can be learned quickly, and takes only several minutes, if pressed for time. Employ the EFT version for use in public, for which you can reasonably claim that you have a headache, as you massage/tap your temples, but it may be advisable to restrict yourself to subvocalising (saying it to yourself, in your mind, not aloud). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o refer. "Even though I sometimes suffer from stress, I deeply and completely accept myself". You can also multitask, using the gazing technique, as you walk/jog or exercise, by focusing on a distant object, noting any thoughts which flash across your mind, without pursuing any particular train of thought, just gently redirect your focus to the gazing. Yoga, or Tai Chi may suit others, better. For some people, visualisation of a quiet, relaxing scene, like a tropical beach, (feel the sun warming you, as a gentle breeze caresses your skin lightly, inhaling the tangy, salt laden spray from the waves, crashing on the white, sandy beach, as the seagulls swoop and cavort playfully overhead; you feel just like one of them; free to soar and wheel, and that this moment will last forever) works well for them. Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements, or a teaspoonful of the oil (I spread mine on toast, and mask its strong taste with fishpaste, and pepper), in the winter months only, and eat healthily, in accordance with your "nutritional type" as determined at http://www.mercola.com/ SEARCHBAR. http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

First of all you have two disabilities....epilepsy and clinical depression. You receive SSI because you proved you have true disabilities. I think she will have to make more than ONE phone call. She could order a full investigation but she will have to PROVE that you are breaking rules. You may want to hire an attorney that deals with disability clients...they won't ask for money up front but will take a precentage after the case is won.....that is if it even goes that far. Maybe the threat of getting an attorney would be enough....maybe having an attorney write a letter in your behalf would be enough. Search the internet for resources, disability advocates and pro-bono attorneys.
To relax....you see a psychiatrist. Ask for some Valium or Xanax due to the extreme stress this social worker is putting you under. Works like a charm!

Take hot bubble baths....meditate....read a good book....watch funny movies/shows....if you have a dog, take him/her for lots of walks. Getting out in the fresh air and sun always brightens up my mood.

Hope these have helped.
