I was just prescribed and took effexor xr for the first time today, experiences?!

Question: I'm worried because I've heard so many bad things about this drug, but became desperate enough with increasing depression that I decided to try it. I'm already on Wellbutrin 150 mgs and that helps somewhat, but needed something else to work with it.
Please share youre experiences with effexor as I'm pretty intimidated, but want so much to feel better.
Thank you !!

I am on this medication I take it for Panic attacks, I have been on this medication for 7 MONTHS , in the beginning I felt a little light headed but I have had no problems, all of my attacks are all but gone, the medication took away the physical problems but I am still working on the mental part of it.

if you do not already know, antidepressants only work so much of the time that you need to do other things to sorta change your lifestyle and remove things that are stressful and cc an trigger your depression.
i haven't tried that, i have tried lexapro though...but i'm bipolar, so it only made me worse. my girlfriends mom takes that, my girlfriend has taken effexor in the past too......my girlfriends mom is okay a lot of the time, so from my opinion, it helps.
do you take wellbutrin still? i don't believe that taking multiple antidepressants will really help to get you on your way to recovery....because my mom takes like 2 diff. kinds of antidepressants and yet she still is pretty moody, but that's probably because she's old..or she's going through menopause (she takes wellbutrin and somethin else).....but anyways.
don't be intimidated....the only thing that will probably hurt you drastically with that stuff is if you go off of it cold turkey. my girlfriend did and she had to go to the ER...and after that she hadta take Xanax for a week to get better. but also, if you are a teenager that can increase your depression.....but it may not...
if that doesn't work, talk to your doc about getting off of that and wellbutrin and take zoloft or lexapro. when one med doesn't work, it may just be because it's too low of a dose for you....
i take lamictal for my bipolar disorder...i also take omega 3 supplements and multi vitamins just to make sure i am okay everyday because when you are all moody you tend to eat a lot ya know? so if you're like me, make sure you take multivitamins and get a lot of exercise. omega 3 or fish oil supplements work to reduce irritability and depression. if you like fish though, eat it a lot!!
i hope this helps you....just remember, stay away from stressful things, make sure you get your exercise and cut back from sat. fats...especially food like chocolate....when you're depressed, all it makes you do is get more depressed.....take multivitamins daily, eat fish at least 3 times a week or take omega 3/fish oil supplements....i take Bayer Nutritional Science, it has omega 3, Ginkgo biloba(which helps increase your blood flow), and something else that is a fatty acid that works to help brain function. research that....it's like 10 bucks at target.

hope this helps, remember, a sharp mind is a safe mind!

I took this medication over a year. It worked great for a while. I started noticing I wasn't having any feelings that I should of had. I tried coming off 2 or 3 times before actually getting off, but it was pure agony. The withdrawls were so bad I thought of nothing but killing myself. I could not concentrate or even drive. I had memory lapse. I would cry at the silliest things. it took 7 months before beginning to feel normal. I always advise everyone not to take effexor. Please do research on this medication. I wish I had.
