Treatment:
Current treatment combines behavior modification, family participation, and school involvement. Certain medications that address symptoms of anxiety and social phobia (extreme social shyness) have been used safely and successfully

For additional information and resources, see selective mutism support groups.

Expectations (prognosis):

The prognosis for this syndrome varies. However, continued therapy and intervention for shyness and social anxiety into adolescence and adulthood may be required.

Complications:

The mutism can affect the child's ability to function in social or educational settings. Without treatment, symptoms may become more severe.

Hope this helps

I would suggest talking to a psychiatrist. This really is all in your head and is probably linked to anxiety disorders. I wouldn't doubt that anti-anxiety medications could help along with therapy. There is some underlying reason you aren't talking and I think if you find it and find your voice that you'll be able to work it out.

See if you can find a friend to practice with. Even if you don't like talking in public right away, talk with one new person at a time. But please get some help. You can't go on not talking forever.

You know that feeling you get when you are doing a jigsaw? You have invested hours of painstaking labour, when it suddenly occurs to you that all the pieces may not be there. What, even if it is a brand new box, if the manufacturers inadvertently missed a crucial segment? How annoying would that be? Welcome to life on Planet Earth; the place where everything nearly, but not quite, fits together. A key situation in your life now can be improved. It cannot, though, be perfected.

:D :D :o :-)
