Can Effexor cause a major blackout? PLEASE read and help!?!

Question: my husband went from 150mg down to 75mg while he was coming down he slept 18-20hrs a day for a couple weeks. Also coming home from work and not caring about anything. This is not like him at all. One day at work they called me to come get him when I got there he didn't know who I was or who our children were.He was in a complete daze. The doctor put him back on 150mg and about 4 days later he knew who I was and about 7-10days later he started knowing everyone else. He was out of work for aprox 1 1/2 months. We think coming down caused this but we just thought of this and the episode happened about 1 year ago and doctors never gave a reason why this could of happened. Could this have been caused by cutting the dose in half???

Yes. "Blackout, seizures or major amnesia episodes are common" when withdrawing from Effexor.
The issue here is that he was not withdrawing properly, I don't think. If you cut it in half immediately, then that's bad. He should have gone down to 112.5, or something--using the 37.5 mg pills.

Im not sure about an answer but i take 225 mg a day and this story scares me.

i wouldnt mess with his dosage again. obviously he really needs the meds. i take 375mg a day...i am never going off of it now.
