Effexor XR--if you have experience, please help me?!

Question: Hi. I've done all the research and stuff and put a lot of thought into choosing to try this for increasing depression.
I've taken 2 doses so far from the 37.5 mg starter pack with the intention to increase to 150. I almost immediately got the "runs" and woke up vomiting this morning.
I know that starting anything new can be rough, but has this ever happened to anyone? I'd really like to shake this depression and stick with this medicine, but not like this.
I also take Wellbutrin 150 daily and it never gave me anything like this.
Please tell me this will pass and I'll feel better.
Thanks for any answers!

I think it's safe to say that almost everyone reacts differently to these kinds of drugs. I take Cymbalta 20 mg, which is a newer antidepressant that is the same kind as Effexor (they are both SNRI's). It works really well, as long as I take it with food. Try taking yours with food.

BAD THOUGHTS -SUCIDAL TENDENCIES ETC ETC

I took Effexor XR for about a year, it was a good drug. All of a sudden it just stopped working...stupid me decided to just stop it cold turkey...dumb mistake. It felt like i was going through heroin withdrawl!! Shaking, sweating, vomiting, it was terrible. I had to go back on it and wean myself off of it. Now I take Wellbutrin and Lexapro, great combo for me.
I never had the runs with Effexor XR, but Prozac really tore up my stomach, and didn't do a thing for my depression.

Effexor XR was personally the worst medication for depression that I have ever taken in my 25 years of being a psychopharmacological "guinea pig". It turned me into a total zombie with no emotions (or so my family says-I have no recollection of the time that I was on it!) I had my driver's license revoked because I hit the back of a schoolbus the first morning tht I took it. My Dr. gave me no warnings about driving. I'm told I was found passed out on the floor of the grocery store, and the employees called 911 & I was taken to the E.R. My bloodwork was all screwed up, my kidneys were not functioning properly, and I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I do remember spending months just going between the bed and the bathroom, not being able to hold anything down and feeling like I was dying.
I ended up going to a new Dr., and he took me off that crap. I now take Lamictal, Lexapro, Topamax, and Valium(as needed). I have bipolar1,Anxiety,ADHD,OCD & other issues though, but this is the best medicinal combination I have been on. Good Luck!
