Yes, Bipolar and Anxiety Disorders can coexist at the same time and that is not unusual at all. Bipolar Disorder can have multiple co existing mental health illnesses at the same time.
For example it is not uncommon for a person to be diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, OCD and so on. Just because you have one diagnosis it does not mean that your other symptoms don't exist. If you have Bipolar and you also have signs and symptoms of Anxiety Disorder, then you should be diagnosed with both disorders as long as you meet the DSM IV criteria for each of the diagnosis.
The signs and symptoms of more than one diagnosis will overlap usually. But as long as the criteria of the DSM IV is met then dual or multi diagnoses are acceptable and probably more common than you realize.
