Hypomania again...?!

Question: Okay, I have been increasingly strange over the past 4 or 5 days. I have been talking like mad, making all sorts of jokes and being the highlight of some friends because of this. I keep having these goddamn fleeting thoughts and strange ideas that make no sense and have no tie to reality... they just make me smile. My emotions are WAYYYYY up, and I have been very on edge... anger and anxiety have been at an all time high. I haven't the sleep loss as drastically as I usually do... still getting 4.5-5 hrs a sleep at night. I am annoying the hell out of myself and now that I am thinking about my behavior, I feel so AWKWARD.

I have a psychiatrist (med) appt today, which was scheduled ages ago. I just had a psychologist appt yesterday. He has noticed the HUGE increase of emotionality at my last two appts (I have to do emotion ratings) and mentioned 'gently' that I may be hypomanic.

He also said something about triggers, and that I have had a lot of stress lately.

Is it possible that the celexa (which is an antidepressant) is propelling you into a hypomanic state? From everything I read, it says that antidepressants should not be given to bipolars because it will propel them into the manic state. Check it out with your Doc. Good luck. Things just gotta get better for you. If I had one wish in this world, there would be ONE pill to take ONE time and for bipolar to be wiped off the face of the earth. Siggggggggghhhhhhhh.

Anna-- I think you got a lot of good advice from these peeps.

hmm, did you like just start taking those meds or have you for a long time now? i take lamictal 100mg and it works fine for me...i've been taking that for a year next month....but maybe its too low of a dose for you....lithium should of helped you. talk to your doc about Xanax. yeah it may be used for anxiety and depression but that crap calms you down fast. look into taking valium.
have a better diet and exercise....also go to the store (target if you have one) and buy Bayer Nutritional Science. it's 10 bucks and it has omega 3 supplements in it which are supposed to do a lot of clensing for your body....it helps reduce depression and irritability...even helps with your cholesterol and memory.

go to this site...it has a lot of things about bipolar disorder
definitely take a look at the nutrition category.

Sure is a lot of drugs.
Can we just be weird w/o the prescribed drugs.
Does the psychologist ever do anything besides more drugs?

Mania doesn't always feel good. People rarely talk about the downside of mania:
+ Irritability
+ Rage
+ Irrationality
+ Violence
+ Irresponsibility
+ Lack of self-control

When I'm hypomanic, sometimes I take 50 mg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl), which has sedative effects. Medicine that's prescribed to me includes lorazepam (Ativan).

It may help for you to go into a dark room for 30 minutes at a time when you feel out of control and overstimulated. In the darkness there are less distractions and you may feel more tranquil if you listen to lilting music or do breathing exercises.

When I am not sleeping, I enjoy chatting online, drawing, or writing. You may also feel less edgy if you do some strenuous physical activity. When I go to work (as a cashier) I wear myself out running from register to register to get the store card.

Hope I've helped.

lol. Speaking as a fellow bipolar (right?), mania isn't always "feel good". In fact, my mania feels more like I want to seriously hurt people because of their RAGING STUPIDITY. hahaha. That being said, I am not hypomanic/manic right now.

It's a fine balancing act of meds and behavioural therapy, to be quite honest. If you have an appointment for a med adjustment today, you may want to bring up some meds that can be fast-acting and kinda curb the mania. I used to use ativan in extreme cases. Then again, you're on 3/3 drugs that I've used and had absolutely no success on. Celexa gave me HORRIFYING lucid dreams, Lithium made me feel like a zombie/robot just going through the motions and lamictal gave me that scary rash that they so often tell you if you get to stop taking asap.

Good luck to you, really. It's one of the hardest things to have to go through, this crazy cycling that we do.

You know, I thought I had it bad with major depression and anxiety. No offense to you, but now I thinak God I don't feel like you just described! That sounds really scary and I totally feel for you! I hope and pray that you can find help!
