Anti-Depressants are making me DEPRESSED?!

Question: Ive had social and agoraphobia for about 4 years, this means i talk to no one and don't ever go out, Great life? although at the beginning i was a little depressed i somehow just excepted it and got on with life.
However ive been perscribed (Zyban bupropion wellbutrin) this is a very well established Anti-depressant, this was given to me by my doctor because my phobia has become so bad, i thought i was just really down, but ive been on them a week, and i am now so depressed i hate waking up, all the things i did during the day around my flat, washing cooking and even watching tv, has become unbearable to do, im never like this at all, im very worried about the pills as they have given me severe depression, while trying to rid me of my phobias, now i have both problems, ive been on them 8 days, and counting, i wan't to stay on them, and im hoping its a side effect that clears after 2 weeks, anybody had simlar feelings while on these pills, maybe put my mind at rest.

go to the pub and get smashed

whoops u can't

It's probably a side effect of the medication. Wait a couple of weeks, and if it doesn't clear up (or if you start feeling suicidal at any point), speak to your doctor about changing to something else.

Ironic......lol

not every anti depressant works for every one

if you were prescribed this med by a regular doctor , i highly suggest you see a mental health professional soon.

if i may- i presume you feel depressed because of your phobias- and how they limit you- if you get help for that you may find your depression gos away

Wellbutrin made me 4 points restraint psychotic within a few weeks.

I knew after a week that it was doing something "not right" but I stayed on it another couple weeks because the Doctor said "youre just being overly sensitive to being on medication"

After being on it three weeks I was complusively suicidal....

If you dont feel right about taking something - by all means talk to your doctor....depression is a side effect of wellbutrin.
I'm not one of those people who will tell you "snap out of it" I'm not hostile towards the idea of medicating psychological distress.....however, I am a big advocate for finding the RIGHT medication for you....

If you feel your doctor doesn't listen - get another one...there are gobs of them.

U have to stop taking them if they are making you feel more depressed that is one of the more serious signs as anti depressants can sometimes worsen the symptoms and that leads to suicide =[ You need go back to your doctor and ask him to change your medication - when i was on Prozac i had suicidal thoughts and uncontrollable crying fits so he switched my med to Paroxetine 50 mg - it works wonder

I also suffered from agoraphobia these pills help calm me down enough to allow me lead a normal life.

I hope this helps.

Stop taking them immediately and talk to your doctor.

Read plenty of books. Don't worry about people are cruel take care.

Yes I have started sedatives they can act this way. This Anti-Deppressive medicine does often act that way at first they are effective.
Try Outlook Deppression Alliance

Hi,

i am on anti-depressents aswell, so i know what you are going through.

You need to go back and see your doctor as you might find the ones you are on do not suit you, but you can find that some tablets can take at least 2 weeks untill they start to work properly.

I found that the first three lots i took did not suit me, i am now on my fourth different type and these ones suit me better.

Good luck in finding the ones that suit you, and i hope you start to fel better soon, as i have found that unless someone has suffered from depression, they can not understand what you are going through.

Please, please listen to me. I have sufferd with depression since I was 15 and I'm now 30. I have tried every anti-depressant and even become an alcoholic for 5 years aswell as a cocain addict. Their is hope though. 2 years ago after rehab I started going to the gym. Training releases dopermine which turns into serotonin and believe me matey, this is the best anti-deppressant in the world. 14 years i suffered and now I am on top of the world. Email me if you want any further info. Craig.

There's a much better solutions than pills. The technique is called EFT and it works for phobias, stress, anxiety, addictions and all emotional distress in general.
It works amazingly, is very simple and costs nothing!
I used it to quit smoking (I had no withdrawals) and to get rid of fears.
There's someone out there who offers free (donate if you want) email consultations. Here is the website: http://www.info-santanyi.com/eftservice/...

I hope it works for you as good as it did for me, best of luck!

Sounds very similar to my situation. I was prescribed prozac for my panic attacks, and whilst it did eradicate that eventually, I got REALLY depressed for a while, which I hadn't had to really deal with before - I felt MUCH worse on the meds than before to begin with. You will get better though, no question.

DO NOT STOP taking your medication, UNTIL you have spoken to your GP - it can be very dangerous! That happened to my daughter with Seroxat. She survived, but still suffers trauma, 5 years after.

If your GP has not referred you for specialist psychiatric or psychological treatment, ask for it. Your phobias can be treated to some extent or cured.

Ask your GP to change or stop your current medication - I discovered in the 1970s that I cannot take anti-depressants; they always make me feel far worse.

If your doctor has not already arranged a support system for you, ask about the local Crisis Team, and the support of a local Mental Health Nurse.

In the meantime, try not to worry about your daily chores, just do what you can and try to relax, when you can. Check for helplines on the Internet, so you can talk to someone when things get too much.

You have my very best wishes. If I can help further, email me.

how long does it take for the pills to kick in. have you read the leaflet that comes with pills. i am on cipralax. they take two to four week before they work properly. so don't despair. good luck.

It's common for anti depressants to cause increased risk of suicide and increased depression during the first few weeks of treatment. In particular, in young adults between the ages of 18
