This is difficult. I certainly wouldn't go to the police that's a big over reaction. I think you need to be more specific - what drugs are they taking?

Taking them to see a doctor together shows you support them, professionals will give them the right advise.

Good luck and remember they are your friend and they need support there is usually an underlying reason why they feel like they need to resort to drugs.
