Calling all "cutters"?!

Question: I see that as COMPLETELY INSANE!
If you do NOT see it as insane, please help me to "get it".
How can pain feel good? How can life feel so fuucked up that you want little deaths from blood all the time? Can't you see how STUPID that is?

I think your question has no answer. To ask me why is to ask a question I cant even answer to myself. I try to hide my cutting by sticking to me legs. Still sometimes I cut my arms before the no don't do it gets through. In a way its an art, you become possessed of it, I get out of time while I am doing it, like someone who might day dream. Its only when the blood is going everywhere that I go 'oh shiiit' and come back to reality and stop. To me its as normal as brushing my hair. Its part of my life, who I am and how I find balance.

Be safe, be sage

Edit: Re your additional information. So little you know. To even think that only teens are cutters shows that. Then to deny or devalue what they may have experienced is lame. People must remember that their does not need to be some big tragic event in a persons life for them to get out of sync. It just happens

Edit (2) It seems you don't actually want an answer to your question, but rather you just want agreement with your point of view. Cant help you there, sorry.

you know what. no. most people cut because they feel numb inside from stress, or other things happening in their lives. so they cut themselves to feel alive again and to let them know they aren't dead yet. also some people cut because they havent learned better ways to cope with things that are troubling them. so stop being so critical.

cant you see youre being a complete ***?

pain does not feel good. It is quite obviously a demonic spirit that is their driving force, manifesting itself by making them cut themselves.

What the f*ck do you know about pain??? I don't cut myself, but if you're feeling painful inside (not physically), by hurting yourself the physical pain actually hurts more than that other pain, so it gives you temporary relief

and also there's like an adrenaline kinda thing when you bleed

Those who resort to cutting are in such tremendous pain inside that they can't handle or understand, so they are looking for something to change the focus. Cutting is painful but THEY are in control of the cutting, & of how much pain they can tolerate. Also, they can rationalize to themselves that of course they hurt, look at the scars. In this way they don't have to confront the underlying problem. Obviously they need help from professionals. Even tho cutters rarely die from their habit, they can certainly waste a lot of time & energy trying to cover up their tracks, leaving them with less in the way of resources to fight. About all you can do is encourage them to seek help, & be supportive in what ever way you can, WITHOUT condoning the self-harming behavior.

if you dont understand dont criticise imagine yourself walking through life all fine & dandy then all of a sudden you loose control of the way you are feeling, its not their fault given a choice nobody of sound mind would be cutting themselves!!!

uhm i've never completly Cut but i've had urges for the last 5 years. from what i read that you wrote sounds like one of those sterotypical "emo kids"
#1. Cutting releases some kind of chemical which makes you feel better
#2. Sometimes you get so low you dont even know if you're alive, dead, want to live or die. it just comes down to bleeding and helps you make desicions. can you live with the pain? what about the pain you'll leave your family and friends if you go all the way.

it just solves some mental problems. though it is one in itself. Honestly Most people dont do it to die. they dont want to do it. they just feel like they need to , have to do it.

I completely agree with you. Though some people may find cutting a temporary "relief", it can have lifelong damages and can get you a bad reputation. There really is no logical reason for this, but there are better ways. I used to be a very small-scale cutter, but now I take out my stress through girls' basketball (very violent if you ask me). So I would reccomend staying away from cutters, because their negative attitudes can rub off on you. If people show off their cutting scars, they just want attention, because most keep it to themselves. So, in conclusion, they just want some different kind of pain, but there IS a better stress relief.

You kind of need to do it to understand it.

It's sort of like, your life is spinning out of control and you can't control it, but you can control the cuts on your wrists. Cutters are usually so overwhelmed they don't even realize what they're doing most of the time, so it may seem insane to you. They might just see it as a way of coping with their problems.

Wow I cant believe you actually posted this. People who cut don't do it because they want to. Its a coping mechanism. Everyone has a different way of coping with things, thats just one common way of doing it for people who are really struggling with something. I know its hard to understand when you have never been there, but thats exactly the point, YOU HAVEN'T BEEN THERE! you should feel empathy for those with this problem, and want to help them rather than sit on your high horse and point fingers!

Obviously you haven't so stressed and so sad that u don't feel alive anymore. It's the same as the saying pinch me cause I think im dreaming. If they can feel the pinch than they know that what's happening to them is real and that their alive. I'm not a cutter but I understand them. Sometimes I can get so sad that I go into this shell and I start to feel like i'm in a bubble looking at the outside world pass me by. Usually when this happens I need a good friend to snap me out. The cutting for them is like a jolt to their system or a different type of pain that they can control.

non cutters can try to understand, but they never will. so dont even try.

cutting is a suicide prevention method, its pain replacement. its a psychological escape almost a pain prevention technique. much like ice diving. cutting is alot more extreme. do some research instead of ripping on people for real psychological problems. and yeah some peoples lives are that messed up. i dont cut but have bipolar disorder are you going to question anything ive ever been through?

I know several people over 40 who are "cutters"....

I also know a 31 yr old women who lit herself on fire last week because she needed to stop the "bacteria"

Do I agree that it has become almost "cool" and is a foolish coping mechanism? Yes

Is it an activity of the "insane".... well, its an activity of the MILDLY disturbed.. so thats subjectively your call.

And again, cutting is an activity to support your CONTROL over your own pain, when your internal pain is out of control. Its never been about feeling good, masochism is rarer than the papers say. It is also about the control over your physical body.

Well I am 37 years old and I cut and burn myself to control my anger, so it's just not always the teens!! , Something either has happen to us when we were young and this helps us, I know it ain't right but can't help it. The pain calms me down. I like the burning better. My family has screwed me up real bad, it was very violent ,my dad hitting on my mom and about killed her right in front of me. ect.......

I don't view it as completely insane. I view it as a way to cope with things that one sees other way to deal. I cut, but I do understand that it's not the best thing. Don't look down on anyone because of it. I'd say 99% of people who cut or self-harm in some way have some issues that need to be dealt with. I disagree that people over 40 do not cut, I've read stories of people in their 40's cutting. Every time someone makes a remark like this it just pisses me off [just like i'm sure you get pissed hearing about people hurting themselves]. I'm not going to jump down your throat but just try to be a little bit more sensitive to people. I understand you don't get it, really I do, but you don't need to be so arrogant about it. It helps relieve stress for me. I don't like seeing scars over me but it does help, even if it is short lived. I feel numb and when I cut it helps me know that I'm able to still feel. But I do get help for my problems and don't plan on doing this forever, no one does. It's just a way to deal with life when it gets to be to much. I don't look at it as 'little deaths', I don't want to die. I don't do it for that reason at all. Read online stories that people have written about their problems and maybe you'll educate yourself a little more about it before you make such statements.

you know what most people cut to cope or because they feel numb!... i cut what gives you the right to judge outhers maby you should try cutting cuz i think your brain is numb!!! how can you say that you gone throgh stuff that no teen has gone throgh. my parents dont want me but theyl gladly take my sis, my older sis is probly going to die my mom tryd to kill herself im liveing wit my aunt and hateing it, my nephew died not to long ago. not that much friends iv evan gone throgh poverty my aunt is trying to get rid of me so i will have nowher to go im 16 and i would gladly acept death i have alot more if you want me to name them

some people arent as smart as you, you are the almighty and we should all bow down to you since you are the stronger person, some people have servere problems in life, mental problems etc, not your petty little problems.depression etc is 100 times worse than anything you have felt.

When your body goes through extreme pain, especially pain that is self inflicted, there is a rush or endorphines and adrenaline that is released in the brain. So it actually feels pleasurable.
