What causes bio-polar disorder?!

Question: "There is evidence from imaging studies that the brains of people with bipolar disorder may differ from the brains of healthy individuals"

Recently at least, bipolar appears to be on a similair thread as schizophrenia.. Genetics, environment, and physical trauma all increase the odds of developing it.

Bipolar often has a trigger event before becoming acute.. that gives the theoretical basis for it being an electrochemical state that simply moves out of our nervous system's ability to control. Shortly after, our body decides (in its self-preservationist way) to no longer try to regulate that area of the brain... The brain may be the source of the problem, but the sympyoms and condition are very treatable at this point.

Short answer: No one has found a specific source.. genetics is linked, but anyone can develop it.

i wish i knew

I am pretty sure genetics has a lot to do with it.

Experts disagree and are still debating this. It is probably a combination of genetics and upbringing. Stressful events can bring it on as well.

bipolar disorder*

it's genetics, it terribly sucks.

Generally, it is considered a chemical imbalance in the body, which can be managed with medication and therapy with good success. kjl

The causes of bipolar disorder is not entirely known...
It may lie dormant and be activated spontaneously or it may be triggered by different life stresses! Although no one is quite sure about the exact causes of bipolar, researchers have found these important clues...
Genetic factor: Bipolar tends to be familial, meaning that Mental Illness runs in families! About half the people with bipolar have a family member with a mood disorder such as depression!

Neurochemical factors: Bipolar is primarily a biological disorder that occurs in a specific area of the brain and is due to the dysfunction of certain neurotransmitters, or chemical messages in the brain - Chemical imbalance!
Even without clear genetic factors, altered health habits such as alcohol, drug abuse, or hormonal problems can trigger bipolar episodes!
Medications such as antidepressants can trigger a manic episode in people who are most susceptible to bipolar!
