Recovering Bulimia?!

Question: Ok, I was wondering if there was anyone here who has Bulimia or who has had Bulimia in the past that knows anything I can do to help stop it? I know how bad it is for you and all that, and I know about therapy, I have been seeing a therapist for years. I just really do want to stop, but I cant. I really just want someone to understand. Thanks for your help
PS for me its not at all a food thing, its an addiction to purging

It's more likely an addiction to control... well, to what you believed was control. It starts as a quick way to lose weight. Then it becomes a security blanket to assure yourself of being in control. Then you start to purge simply because you feel like nothing if you don't. You're overwhelmed with feelings you don't understand but can't handle, so you need to keep purging. It's not only a control over your weight anymore. You get a rush when you do it. It's a high that lasts only a short while. It'll need to be treated as such. It's not about food, and although it has a lot to do with control issues, that's not the entire story. You'll need to refer back to the original reason you started purging, so you can get a handle on this. Contact me, if you want to talk more about it and see if we can't work this out. I hope to hear from you soon. Just send me a message.

i dont have it, but one of my friends used to.
what you need is a really strong goal. like my friend liked this one guy A LOT and he found out that she purged. and he said he would never talk to her again if she didnt stop, so she did. you need something that you NEED to have against purging. i dont know of any other ways.

If I were you, I would find something you like to do to distract yourself. I am one of those people who can get over anything and just stop because I know it's wrong, but I know that it is hard. When ever you feel you need to puke, just distract yourself with something like homework or a TV show thats on.

Hey i had bulimia about 2 years ago.
It lasted for almost a year, but then i started doing stuff that made me happy like going out with friends, shopping, dating new guys.
& all of that made me feel confident and good > then i stopped worrying if i ate too much or reading labels on food.
do stuff that make you feel confident and don't worry if you gain weight, i went from a size 0 to a size 5. everytime i went up a size i would freak out but now it doesn't bother me
goodluck and good for you wanting to get over it
:)

I am in recovery for bulimia. I'd really suggest starting group therapy or intensive outpatient therapy at a psychiatric hospital. The ones that I have been to have special programs for the eating disordered patients. ANAD has free group therapy, so you might try to see if they have a group in your area. It's a really hard cycle to break, but I haven't purged since December, which is a pretty long time for me to have gone since doing it. You can do it!
