all of those are good answers.

but remember- a diagnosis isn't an answer (on a personal level). Depression is just a name for a collection of symptoms. It isn't the kind of problem where once you can name whats wrong there is a prescribed solution.

Also, just looking at lists of symptoms will diagnosis you for many things you might not actually have a problem with.

If you're feeling depressed, and it sounds more like you're feeling cynical (I know all about that one!) you should take a look at your life. Look at what you want, where you're going, and who you want to be.

Diagnosing yourself with "depression" puts you in danger of keeping your problems around cause you can blame them on a illness. Meaning, you could tell yourself you're not changing because you've got an illness that will keep you from changing what needs to be changed. In that situation you'd be using the diagnosis as a crutch. Try not to focus on labels, because once you identify yourself as depressed, it may make you feel even worse. Imagine someone who thinks of themselves as 'depressed', something bad happens and they just wallow in self pity since a chapter in a psychology book says thats what a person with depression would do. I hope this makes sense.

You questioning if you have depression or not is a sign something is up. You don't need to 'have something' to go to a therapist or to try to evaluate life.

When you look into the mirror, who do you see looking back out? Is that really you? The honest answer is 'no, not really'. It may be a reflection of your current physical form but it is by no means the whole you, the full you, the true you. You were once a small child. One day, you will be much older. Your appearance has already changed drastically and it will yet do so again. Current events are showing you something about the real nature of your identity. You now need to remember that you are much bigger than this.
