To those who have the power of positive thinking...how did you start?!

Question: Everything is so hopeless and crappy. How does one "turn" positive? I can't find the positive in anything really and I'm sick of it. I want to be happier and positive, but I can't even imagine where to begin.

(I can't go to counselling....no money for it)

I, too, am having a problem regarding positive outlook in life. You know, things will pass, and that's so and obviously inevitable. Just enjoy every minute in a fancy way. Difficult trials in life are managed perfectly when you're happy. Remember that God answers our prayers in different ways. He might not give you the answer now, but you'll surely receive it in His time.

I felt the same way as you.
But I've learned to just trust in God and cast my problems on Him because He will take care of me in the end. Everything will get better. We all have our own crosses to carry.

And when you t hink you are hopeless and crappy , you aren't the only one. How about the poor man on the street with no family, food, money?

Read 'The Power Of Positive Thinking' by Norman Vincent Peale.

although positive thinking is good. I thought this book and the movie was full of greed and selfishness. I have morals and like to give and am quite satisfied with not having it all.

Always hope things would get better. Anything well begun is half done.

When you look into the mirror, who do you see looking back out? Is that really you? The honest answer is 'no, not really'. It may be a reflection of your current physical form but it is by no means the whole you, the full you, the true you. You were once a small child. One day, you will be much older. Your appearance has already changed drastically and it will yet do so again. Current events are showing you something about the real nature of your identity. You now need to remember that you are much bigger than this.

What are the things you are greatful for?
Try writing a "gratitude list" It will help you see the brighter side of things.

Take care of yourself... excersise, eat right and get good sleep. Have fun... don't isolate... talk to people you trust about your feelings.

Try helping others. I've found this to be the mose effective activity when feeling down. It helps me forget about the bad/negitive things I think about. This will also allow you to feel good aout yourself. When you are making others happy... smiles are contagious!

Attitude is VERY important. If you have a bad attitude.... you will have a negitive outlook on life!

Laugh, laugh , laugh... best excersise for the brain!!

Just move your momd one degree right.

It depends on you and what you respond to...it's not as simple as just thinking positive. Here are few good ways:

Read inspirational/meaningful quotes, short stories, books etc...

Journal to write about feelings

Exercise and try to eat healthy

Music, aroma & color therapy (google search techniques they are not expensive)

Spend more time with friends/family (who are not negative)

Find a hobby or interest

Volunteer/work with those in need

Become more spiritual

Learn about things that interest you

Go to museums, free events etc..

You have made your first step by asking for help!

I hope you get lots of answers, because there are many ways one can help themselves. I fought with depression and the "I hates and nothing goes right for me" for a long time. And, to be honest there are still times I can "let" myself get in a pity party.

Not everyone needs counseling, but there are times when some do. If you feel you do need it, most states have Mental Health Clinics that do counseling for free. Call a doctor's office, hospital, or Chamber of Commerce, seach the phone books to give you direction on places to go.

My daddy used to tell me happiness was a decision. I needed to make the decision to be happy. And, boy did that piss me off. Now I can understand. He was right. I had to make the decision to be happy and make changes in my life.

Get you a notebook and begin to write. Write anything. Don't worry about spelling or grammer. Just write. Sometimes we can see where our problems lie in our own words. Words have power-great power. Our subconsicious hears everything we say and think. So, become aware of what you say and think. Think before you say!

Start giving yourself affirmations. Write them down on small pieces of paper and post them on your mirrors, bedpost, lamps, stove, frig, washer, car everywhere you look. Start by putting things like...I am going to be happy! I want to be happy and I can be. I have made the decision to be happy. Everyday I am getting better in everyway. The negative must leave. I want only positive energy around me. Say them over and over to yourself and out loud.

Find information on how to produce or release endorphins, which is a chemical in the brain that can elevate our moods and help kill pain. Sex is a good way!! LOL!! Also, singing out loud. When we sing it produces vibrations in our brain that triggers the release of endorphins. Petting an animal, holding a "sleeping" baby (not crying), do those things that make you go ahhhh. You know the feeling of being all tingly. And, probably the best is LAUGHING. Watch a funny movie, read jokes from the internet, anything positive to make you laugh.

Excerise, do yard work and talk to yourself!! Eat a good diet, which is my hardest thing to do. Find information on herbs you can purchase over the counter that help with depression. When you do research for these things you are moving to a positive direction. You are getting out of the rut and doing something positive for yourself.

Sometimes we have to remove things or people out of our lives that cause us unhappiness. People who bring negative things into our lives. You don't need that. This is your time to make some changes.

Begin to reconize your own personal challenges, whether it is physical or emotional. Then begin to tell yourself you are getting better.

Mine has to do with physical. I deal with lots of pain and at one point thought death would be better for me and my loved ones. So, I began by saying "I am going to find help", "I am going to love myself again", "I am going to be heathy and well", "I will allow only positive things in my life and will work hard to keep the negative things out" and so I did. I have worked hard and it has taken time. There is so much information on mind over body, on the internet, and I began seaching them out and reading. I no longer watch depressing movies or things that have negative or evil things, in them.

No matter how bad things seem, for you, at the moment, there is something good around you. It could be an animal who gives you comfort. Look around your place and find the things that bring comfort, peace, joy and positive meaning to you.

Get you some good sunlight. Early morning is the best. Just about 10-15 minutes. I sit in the morning on my front steps. I just sit with my eyes closed and try to empty my mind. I imagine as the sunlight touches me, it begins to put positive energy in me and remove the negative energy out. I can see the light going into my tummy slowly moving through my body and pushing all the bad out.

There is so much you can do. It is just finding what works best for you. I love peppermint oil. I just open the bottel for a quck sniff. I like the way it makes me feel. I can feel the coolness go into my nose, down my throat and into my lungs. It is refreshing.

I, also, do smudging in my home. Look up smudging. I use dried sage. It is believed that this drives out all the negative energies.

Ok, I will shut up. Most important thing is to love yourself. You are important!

Laughter can be a persons best friend, so I wish you many smiles.

Osteen. W. Clement Stone. The Little Engine That Could.

Let the weak say, I am strong.
Let the negative say, I am positive.

Good luck.
