Is this part of my mental illness...?!!!?!

Question: I have borderline personality disorder (bipolar too they say). I have a problem with getting offended by the way some women/girls are dressing and acting these days. I get offended when watching t.v. and I see a half naked woman every 10 seconds, it seems. It makes me so angry and don't really watch anymore for I'll get very upset. I get offended when I'm shopping and see these women/girls wearing VERY low cut tops or REALLY short shorts. Why must they show everything in our faces? I'm not a man, and the women don't want to see all this! I don't go to the mall anymore because of this. I used to go to the gym, but with women in there wearing a sports bra and underwear-like bike shorts just to exercise makes me upset too. I just feel so offended! It's like these women/girls have no respect for themselves, and I feel disrespected because they're not at home all alone; they're in everyone else's faces! So now I don't watch t.v. and stopped going places I used to. ???????

I've been diagnosed as bipolar, and feel the exact same way you do about those situations..

I don't know what it is, but I get absolutely enraged. I can't stand it.

I'll avoid watching movies with girls, I'll avoid watching tv shows with girls. It especially makes it hard with my boyfriend.

I wish I could give you good advice, but sometimes it helps just knowing you're not alone in feeling that way.

yeah same here..im a girl. and i find it hard to watch movies with my boyfriend and feel comfortable because every movie these days has to have a half naked girl or a sex scene..and they are only like pg-13 movies. its really irritating and im sick of seeing this on a regular basis. what are we teaching our generation?

I'm the same way. I get rather down when i see women/girls who feel the need to expose so much skin in public. I doubt the fact that you get offended is part of mental illness. The fact that it is interrupting your life might be. Since you probably have a therapist/ psychiatrist, talk to them about why you get so angry/ upset.

yeah personality disorder, your looking for things to keep you unhappy so the world is messed up and the best way to deal is complain and shut it out, come on you don't go out and your still thinking about it, your sick. People are dying and your worried about clothes people wear. I makes them happy you gotta find something that makes you happy but you cant be happy until you get the help you need and stay on your meds!

I don't think having a problem with it is part of your illness. But only you and your doctor/ nurse/ family and friends can judge whether your reaction is extreme.

I have a real problem with the sexualisation of women and particularly of young girls. Inappropiate clothing being sold for really small kids etc. feel we've taken a real backwards step in many ways in this 'post feminist' era. I'm sorry but it isn't all ironic and clever.

I was shicked to see that mothercare label their toyshelves separately for boys and girls. What year is this?

Lots of people don't like what they see out in the world, but they don't let that stop them from going places and doing things.

You shouldn't give up things you like to do, either. Just don't worry about other people's choices unless they directly harm you.

If you are bipolar, do you have a counselor? You should - a counselor will help you adjust to things you can't change.

Good luck!

Yes... it is exactly the type of symptom you might have with BPD. Bipolar is a common co-disorder due to the impulsive. People with BPD are typically emotionally overreactant, have inappropriate anger problems, paranoia, unstable self images, and and have difficult relationships due to feeling of intense abandonment by loved ones.

I am 12 and I, too, think am bipolar. I get reddiculously mad when I hear songs about women shaking their butts ect. I get mad when women wear short skirts and low-cut tops. And I HATE perverts. I get so mad at them. I become too mad. And I have a low tolerance for ignorrant people. I don't know why I get like that either. I just know it's unhealthy.

Why do you let this sort of thing bother you so much? You have become subjectively involved in very superficial issues. Maybe thinking about why little children all over the world have no shoes might be more worthy of your time.

First your question said about mental illness and then after your question, it was like other people talking and so I started to think you had multiple personalities until I realized you were responding to people's answers. Ya know, once they answer your question they move onto the next one and aren't reading what you added.
I think you sound a little insecure. Why would you be offended by what another person does? You sound like you're worried about your fiance "seeing" other females. Not everyone dresses that way. THERE ARE A GAZILLION people with different personalities and we are not all the same in attire either. No, I wouldn't dress like that BUT that doesn't mean someone else can't -- it's not against the law. Yes, morals have gone downhill over years and years but you only have to worry about you - not other people.
