I am worrying about losing my job?!

Question: I really like my job. I work for a Legislative body and I have been doing it for nearly six months. On Thursday my boss told me I was doing well but also gave me some directions on things I can do better. He wasn't mad or disappointed, but rather seemed laid back and open with me and complimented me on work that I had done for him. I accepted his direction without protest (it's my boss afterall, and I think he knows I always follow orders). Yesterday, as I was leaving for the three-day weekend, I said bye to him and he seemed as if he were in a bad mood. I couldn't figure out if it was about me or not. He said he'd see me in a week (he's away on vacation). Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that I'll be fired soon. I'm not sure why, either. I don't think i've been reckless or bad. I guess it could be my anxiety disorder. It's just strange because I've done a lot to build my confidence. Any suggestions for what I can do to alleviate the worry until I find out for sure?

the only thing that helps me is like, strenous exercise, I don't know what it is whether its the lactic acid build up in the muscles or the rush of dopamine and endorphins it sends to the brain, but I know I never feel bad, after an intense workout

this is my only, "healthy" remedy I have, when the substance is of short supply, and I can't afford or have health insurance

I might be more stuck than you

Yes! I've been down this road many times! You are just paranoid. My boss used to be in real bad moods sometimes and it would send me into destructive introspective sessions! LOL I would obssess about it until I'd see him again and he'd be smiling at me. Then I'd forget about it until he was in the next bad mood. I know it's imagined fear and paranoia. But it feels so real.

do something pro-active...
are you a thinker or a robot ?
do you just do what your boss says.. or do you actively find ways to help your boss and save them time/work money ?

Try to do something like that before they get back and you'll feel better.
Or talk to other people there about what they think of your work, and anything you could do better.
Maybe just chat with some other people there and see why the boss was angry.

good luck

Why worry about it? Life is too short to be worried about things like that. My philosophy has always been, "If I am still alive, everything is just fine." I have never worried about getting fired. Jobs are a dime a dozen. If you lose one, you can get another. You're not going to die if you lose your job, you'll just be inconvenienced for a week.

talk to your boss

I suffer from AvPD and have to be honest and say try not to think about it - keep your mind occupied. I haven't worked for almost 4 years but in my professional career never had anyone who appears as supportive as your boss. If he is aware of your disorder then you appear to be very lucky. Have you done anything to cope with the randomness of your negative thoughts - I'm not confident and am too aware of how catastrophic my negative thoughts are. Try and be aware that they are your feelings and may not reflect reality, just your own perceptions. Your boss acknowledged you when you left and so isn't mad at you, he was having a bad day as you do if you are trying to tie everything up before you go on holiday. It isn't you!!

Come back after you have been working somewhere for 20 years, I might listen then. Just do the job the best you can, and you will be fine.
