How to get over an obsession?!

Question: I have had this obsession with a band, and I am 18 for frick sakes. I have had it since i was 15 and im just so sick of it. Anyway they arent from canada or the US, but they came here recently but DIDNT come to where i was, they are internationally known, and when i found out they didnt come here before they made it big here I actually cried. its getting so freaking stupid. I have taken all of there posters (before they didnt come here) and thrown them out. and deleted anything of theres from my computer. I just cant seem to get over it. Is there anything I can do. Please dont be rude.

It looks like you have already made a lot of progress. It took a lot for you to throw out their posters.

I would keep at it. Just don't invest to much energy on them. You don't have to completely block them out.

Lets say you spend 3 hours a week doing something related to this band. I woul shorten it to half an hour a week of maybe just listening to their music.

This is because the more time and effort you spend on an activity the more you become invested in it. This is why obsessions usually grow and grow.

Good luck

This could be a good time to broaden your music tastes : )

Just listen to something new and don't think about that other band.

Personally, I recommend you get into Fleetwood Mac and more particularly Stevie Nicks : )

If you are aware of your obsession--and are sick of it..then you know you can direct your energy elsewhere...it sounds like you are growing out of it.

focus your mind on something else you like to do instead of the obsession. if it is something you can remove away from you then let someone else keep it while you get over it. if it is to do something with your hands get something like a ring and keep your hands occupied by playing with it. hope that helps.
