Where does anxiety/panic disorder come from?!

Question: Why do some people not have it and others do? How does it start?

Well there are quite a few different reasons for anxiety and panic attacks. They can be hereditary and can be passed on from a relative. They can have to do with a traumatic event in your life which would cause you to react with fear every time put in a similar situation. They can be due to situations in your life that seem unbearable. Using caffeine or other stimulants can cause anxiety or panic attacks. But if there's seems to be logical reason for anxiety and panic attacks it may be a problem of brain chemistry. The neurotransmitter GABA is a chemical in your brain and also found in foods and supplements. GABA is known for producing calm relaxed feelings. A lack of GABA or an imbalance is a common problem with people who have anxiety or panic attacks. A GABA deficiency is one of the causes of alcoholism. There are certain drugs that can help but there are also more natural alternatives such as herbs or amino acids. You can supplement with GABA itself but it is found to be ineffective because it is unable to reach the brain. I would recommend trying Valerian, Kava, Theanine or Taurine because they all are known for releasing GABA into your brain. They may work
for you but they may not. It's worth a try though because they are all pretty inexpensive, especially if you get them from ebay. To read more about the effects of GABA there's the wikipedia page link below. I hope I helped.

Everybody has a flight or fight response dating back to when human had to fight or flee from predators to live. Nowdays we don't need it much anymore but we still have it because it has been part of our make up for way longer than the time where we haven't needed it anymore.
In some people it malfunctions and they perceive things to be threats that aren't threats, like crowded shopping centres. Something like that can trigger the flight or fight response which is now completely inappropriate for a shopping centre but was appropriate back when humans were faced by a charging animal.
Then it carries onto being afraid of the fear. Where people will then avoid all shopping centres out of fear of the fear or discomfort they feel when they have an attack.

Sometimes it develops as a result of a traumatic or stressful event, much like PTSD does. Other times, there is no known trigger. Basically, it is a hypersensitive or over-exaggerated emotion to a particular trigger or event that causes fear or panic. Some people are just more sensitive to physical reactions to emotional events.

There is no clear explanation. It is based in your fears , pressure, stress building up inside you and coming out in different avenues. It is your body's way of saying you need to deal with some issues.

When going through therapy, successfully, my doctor gave me an explanation that I had never heard before, but that makes perfect sense to me. He said that the very genesis (beginning) of a panic attack starts with a single thought in the mind that happens so fast, that the conscious mind cannot register it. This thought triggers cortisol for a fight or flight response that the conscious mind cannot understand. In other words, the thought that created the fight or flight response didn't register with the conscious mind.

The key to dealing with a panic attack then, and I do speak from experience, is to create control of the heart rate and the breathing thereby bringing your body back to normal. This is what I successfully do to bring a panic attack under control. But I do take Ativan as needed to help control my breathing and heartrate if I need to. I felt it necessary and helpful to share a solution rather than just share the cause of the problem.

Often it is from too much stress, coming from a dysfunctional background or being in the armed forces on the battlefield.

It comes from a disconnect... not connected to your inner spiritual self. There are a number of links and the first book on this website will help as well. Go to the Yoga links first. http://newfreebooks.com
