How to seek professional help without going through doctors??!


Question: Ok i'm really stressed out about everything, i cry every night over one reason, and i cry during the day at anything, like if a family member makes a comment, i'm constantly angry and think about beating up my family members when they disturb me, i can't eat properly or sleep properly, i keep having bad dreams about everything, i've thought about going out and getting really drunk all the time but i don't as i'm also financially in the gutter, i can't get a job although i've been trying for about 9months put in app forms and phoned up ones been to about 6 interviews and my skills r good for interviews as i've been to courses on that, i just never feel happy anymore, i've lost alot of my friends in the past months, i've been thinkin about ending it but i think that's the cowards way out, i need help but i can't think of how 2 get it without my family or telling a doctor about it. I live in the UK, Could this be a phase i'm going thru?

It is okay to tell your family. There is no shame in being depressed. If you really don't want to, you can go to some sort of agency (here in the U.S. it would be your local health department). They usually have counselors that you can talk to that have to stay confidential. You may need some serious pyschiatric help, so just remember that there is absolutely no shame in it!

Go talk to your doctor. You have something more serious running in your family, and avoiding the obvious route to help just doesn't make much sense. To be blunt, pride is an awfully foolish thing to let get in the way of life quality.

It could be a phase you are going through if you decide to battle through it. One sometimes has to be like a spiritual warrior fighting one day at a time to stay afloat emotionally. If one can survive this period you will be a must stronger individual later and also very sensitive to people who have problems. You are really being tested, and you may not now see the end to the tunnel, but one must always have faith that if you struggle long enough and hard enough things will turn around. One can not always expect family members to be understanding, they may not be capable of this. Getting angry at them may not serve much of a purpose. Meditation can help you deal with your emotions. Just breath deeply, tensing your stomach muscles when breathing in, and relaxing them when breathing out, while focusing on these uncomfortable emotions or visualizing things that evoke these emotions. Do this like an exercise, a little every day. It won't be easy to do like any exercise, but result will come over time as with any exercise. Meditation/prayer, physical exercise, and a healthy diet will also help. I would be in bad shape myself emotionally if I did not use these techniques.

Edit: You can ask people you know, if they know someone who could help you. If you ask enough people eventually you will connect with some professional help.
