Children and adults against drugging America?!

Question: Experiences? Your view?

Answers: Experiences? Your view?

Neat, I've never heard of that organization... thanks for sharing. I've always had a severe problem with people overmedicating themselves, and especially their children, starting with the ritalin epidemic in the late 90's.. that's when I first noticed it was a problem. Perfectly normal kids, acting like kids should, being turned into zombies to make it easier on the parents. How repulsive... if you ask me. They've tried to give me antidepressants, I took zoloft for three days before I realized it was making me worse and stopped taking them. Anyway, thanks for the info!

So, this is an organization AGAINST psych meds.
Can you tell us what this organization is "FOR" / what is their positive outlook and why?

98% of what I have personally witnessed has been appropriate use of psych medications. I have 2 neighbors and an Ex who are not sane and functional when they are off their meds. Much like the gunman in Illinois.
The2 negative instances was an over-medicated, under -
Dr. supervised severely handicapped child, and within the walls of a VA Hospital psych ward 30 years ago. At that time that particular VA Hospital was found and rated to be the "worst in the nation".

I'd agree with them on the ADHD thing which seems to be massively over prescribed in the US to really stupid levels. Strangely, in the UK very few kids are prescribed these drugs which are essentially anti-psychotics.

However some of their "facts" are way off the mark such as "Everyone at some point in their lives will be affected by depression". Everyone will feel a bit down at some time, but that is *not* depression.

I'd agree that Prozac and such are probably over prescribed, but on a short term basis that's not such a bad thing and can prevent future problems including the ones they list as causes of depression. Kindof contradicting themselves.

They also mention things like brain chemical imbalance is not proven as brain scan research is inconclusive. Erm...how can an MRI scan look for brain chemicals...!? I don't know of any doctors using CAT / MRI scans to diagnose depression.

That section gets wilder in it's claims such as SSRI's (like Prozac) cause brain tumours. Where's the evidence for this? They have been linked to suicide, violence and psychosis but those are related to the underlying condition - I have depression with related psychosis for example and I was trying to kill people a long time before I got the pills.

The claim that SSRI's have been linked with "abnormal bleeding" is factually correct, but needs clarifying in that it can increase the risk if combined with asprin or ibuprphen. The reason being that both those products also do that to your blood.

Finally the claims just get nuts including that anti-depessents will cause everything from schizophrenia, blood clotting, arson, hostility and more contact with police, exhibitionism and others.

Schizophrenia can't be caused by SSRI's because it's a brain makeup related condition, blood clotting contradicts the claim about blood thinning and things like arson - erm, right, love to see the evidence there.

They're trying to claim things which can be related to the underlying causes of these conditions and various behaviours which people might have shown while on the drugs, and putting them all down to a drug instead of using a scientific based analysis of each case. Plus there's no evidence provided at all.

To show that they really have no idea what they're talking about then put things like "autism (a self-centered or self-focused mental state with no basis in reality)".

Right, you tell that to the people who have to live with autistic kids and adults ranging from those with severe autism to aspergers. These people could actually cause more damage than good if they were ever listened to by a press too lazy to actually check them out...!

Actually they should read the small print at the end which basically says - non of this has any factual basis and we're going to claim freedom of speech as our right to put it out there.

As much as I don't like some of the drug companies, I really hope someone sues them for the damage they could cause.

Edit: Thought they were crazy before, but now just spotted a section on why people should avoid vaccines. The MMR vaccine scare in the UK a couple of years back and the Hooping Cough one in the 1970's with resulting infection rate are just two that show why this would be such a bad idea.

I really hope no one takes these people seriously or they are taken to court for putting lives at risk...!
