Help getting over Bulimia?!

Question: I had an epiphany today that my bulimia was not only hurting me, but my family (they don't know about it, but the ammount I binge and then purge is resulting in a waste in money) and my friend who feels at a loss when trying to help me. I decided to stop being so selfish and try to recover from being bulimic. I'm 5'4 and weigh 100 pounds. What are a few things I can do to get over my bulimia without seeking proffesional help? I don't want to see a doctor because I'm afraid of the consequences. Thanks for your help and hopefully your support!

I overcame bulimia after 4 years of struggling.

First you have to ask yourself... would i rather overcome it and as a result i may gain some weight or otherwise continue with this self destructive behavior.

Also each time you eat you should be thinking about people who are starving in other countries. Imagine yourself puring in front of a group of these people.

Stomach acid is designed to brake down foods including meat so each time you purge your stomach acid eats away at your mouth, fingers, and face(around your mouth-resulting in premature aged skin). Purging cause the stomach acid to eats away at the enamel on your teeth which will lead to tooth decay and it burns away at your oesophagus (pipe joining your throat to your stomach)...

It is as simple as not throwing up your food! And routine planned meal times. You must eat 3 meals a day at the exact same time each day and snack on up to 2-3 pieces of fruit per day between meals.

You must see a doctor... Just as a check up to see what damage you have done to your body and the doctor my also be able to refer you to an eating disorder clinic.

You should tell you family... or otherwise get counsellings...you should go to an overeaters anonymous meeting once a week... its for people who identifying themselves as "powerless over food". Check out where your closest meeting is by searcing in google "overeaters anonymous" & add in "your city/town".

I hope you find the strength to control your urges to eat and become a stronger person through this experience!

you really shoudl see a doctor about it...they can help you and im sure if you want it confidential then the doctor will keep it that way...but maybe you should tell just your mom or dad or someone who is really really close with you so they can help support you through getting better...if you really dont want to thats ok...but seriously consider seeing a doctor...good luck!

Although seeking professional help would do you a lot of good, I guess maybe there are ways to get over it by yourself.First you have to realize why you started being bullimic and if its worth your life.Since its a mental illness, only you have the power to tell yourself NO.Eat healthy, exercise & build a healthy mental state. Its good to talk to people about it as well so you won't keep your feelings bottled up.Keep yourself busy so you won't think about negative thoughts too.Get better soon sweety.

Wow that sounds like quite the predicament. Although this probably isn't what you want to hear, your best bet is telling your family. Sometimes you just have to accept that you can't do something alone, and even though it may be extremely difficult and embarassing, I guarantee your family will understand what your going through. If you really can't bear to tell them, just remind yourself every time you feel like purging that there's no way you can keep up lying to yourself and your family for the rest of your life.

I'm really sorry to say this, because I'm sure it's the last thing that you want to hear, but you need to get help. I have an eating disorder, and I thought I could do it on my own. But eventually I realized that no matter how many times I told myself I had control, that I would try again tomorrow, that I couldn't do it without help. My parents were very supportive and sent me to the Renfrew Center (www.renfrew.org), which is a clinic specially designed for women battling eating disorders. At the very least, you should start seeing a therapist. They can help you work through the issues that have caused you to turn to bulimia. I'm so sorry that you're going through this and I hope that you're able to get help.

Just remember: you're not alone.

idk about bulimia
i assume its an addiction of vomitting after u eat
u should tlk to ur parents bout it nd start eating nd try to break that chain of throwing up after u eat by not doing it,if u dont throw up after u eat for bout a month,it shouldnt be an addiction no more, try eating healthier foods, cuzz most bulimic pple do it cuzz they think there fat,so eat healthier nd dont let no 1 put u down

I used to be bulimic, and I found that it helps to eat very small amounts that don't make you nauseous. but it's probably mostly a mental thing, just stay strong.

That is awesome that you had such a life-saving epiphany! Though getting outside professional help is the healthiest way to get on the road to recovery. A site for resources about eating disorders: http://www.something-fishy.org

Become a grazer, using the following: EATING PLANS: Go to: h t t p : / / c h o o s e d i e t . b l o g s p o t . c o m (you should type it in the usual manner) and select one, possibly changing, later. Eat 6 - 8 small meals, daily, with a little protein in each, preceded 20 minutes earlier with a large glass of water: this speeds up weight loss. Snack on any amount of celery sticks, with the occasional carrot stick, and/or slices of cucumber, tomato, bell pepper/capsicum, or raw onion, in any vinegar (a little salt & pepper/chilli powder is OK, but no oil, or sugar! Rinse your mouth with water, later, if using vinegar. Your body needs a small amount of [ preferably olive, or premium coconut* ] oil, daily, to be healthy: about 2 teaspoonsful, if not getting it in the rest of your food intake already). A good way to get some of this, is from Omega 3 fish oil supplements, consumed with NATURAL vitamin E, or a freshly squeezed orange, or its juice. Understand and accept that many people use food in an attempt to fill an emotional void, which is unhealthy, and never works. Others eat out of boredom, so have plenty of things to keep you occupied. Using this approach, you always have food in your stomach, like the hunter gatherers we evolved from, over millions of years, rather than the farmers we became, in only the last 10,000 yrs, or thereabouts. You should therefore never get physically hungry, avoiding the binge/purge cycles, yet still maintaining a healthy weight, by modifying your food intake composition, yet keeping up the bulk of low calorie/kilojoule vegetables and small amounts of lean protein.
