Answers: (note: if it isn't meth or heroine, what constitutes a drug addict according to most people?)

the need for mankind to be intoxicated has been around since the start of time..

there are substance users..
substance misusers
and..addicts...

addiction is a physical / psychological need to continue using in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms...

You know when your a drug addict , as you always want to have a drug , your body inside you wants a drug. If you listen , then you will have a drug. and then again.

To me..........I think that if you can't or don't want to do anything without..........doing what you do then you're an addict. Or if that particular drug is how you get by and is the main part of your life then you are a drug addict.

The inability to go without using a mind altering substance on a regular basis.

the eyes.. it should be red if they are drug addicts.. that's my own opinion, all drug addicts in our previous place were lyk that.. hehe

An addict is addicted to something whether drugs or alcohol, etc and they feel they cannot live with out it and they are desperate to get some more (drugs) - that is being addicted

you are addicted with a drug if you use more than what is the required amount of intake. and if you get addicted, you tend to get dependent on the drug that you couldn't actually function, mentally and physically if you don't take the drug.

Most people box in 'addicts' into one single box.
They are simply drug/pain killer/medication seeking addicts. That's it!

They don't bother to see there are different forms of addiction.

There is the 'seeking' addiction, where they go out and find the drugs/medication because they NEED to get that feeling of being high. They have to get it at any cost.
They will not only get there fix from the street but hospital/Doctor's/ambulance as well.

Then there is the one's who are just happy to get their high through legitimate means. Such as severe, acute pain.

Then there the one where I fit in. The one where the body becomes addicted and wants the medication BUT the mind DOES NOT.

All are 'medically' labeled addicts.

If you crave 'drugs' either physically or mentally then you are an addict. No matter what the 'drug' is.
And I hate to admit that.

I have been on pain killers for many years and I hate the things, so as soon as I can I get off the things. But I am labeled an 'addict'.

I have just gone through pain killer withdrawls and filmed it for prosperity sake on YouTube. It's not nice at all. But as an 'addict' I had to do this.

Because my hospital file in Casuality now has "Past Morphine addiction" on it I am accussed automatically of faking pain and being called an addict. I am just there to gain drugs apparently.
A call to my treating Doctor soon get's them into line.

I hate the label of 'addict' because of being put in that one box.

When the use of a particular substance interferes with your day-to-day life and functioning. For example if your work performance, relationships, health or finances are affected in an adverse way due to drug usage, then you have a problem.
Also illegal drug use puts you at risk of arrest and a criminal record which could follow you around your entire life and impact
things like your career. Take it from me, it is not worth it.

its when you feel like you need a drug to help you function daily.

when you are dependent on doing drugs just to get through the day then you are an addict. If you use drugs every weekend, then you are a drug addict. If you use drugs just to feel good, you are a drug addict. Put it this way, if you use drugs at all you have the potential to become addicted.

The dictionary definition of addiction is compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful
