I have this extremly weird problem...............?!

Question: Ok. I live in New Zealand and I like to think of it as a great country with a low crime rate. But every time I hear of a murder in this country (or i go looking for it on the net) I get incredibly upset. I feel really down and suddenly hate the country. Then you have a few days without a murder and I start to regain pride in the country. And then there is another one and I go back down again and I begin getting kinda depressed about it. What do I do? And how do I keep a thought in my head that nz is great?

Dealing with bad events is part of maturity. When you live in a large society, like a country, lots of events happen. Some of these events are terrible things such as murder or people get incurable cancer. HOWEVER, there are a lot of good things that happen. People helping others--teaching a child to read, helping someone figure out what to do with their career or at school. Or even answering a question on yahoo answers.

Judging an entire country of millions of people on specific individual actions of a few does not seem to follow.

I would suggest that you focus on the positive things that you can do in your own life--helping others even in small ways (e.g. showing someone how to use a computer program)

Also you should talk to your parents, guardians, etc. about how your are feeling. It is always good to discuss feelings with a grownup that you can trust.

Good luck

Think of all the other states like New York where there's millions of murders a day.

Hmm.... Well, I don't know much about NZ, but maybe if you look at some US news sites you'll feel better about your own country. xD

There is murder everywhere. So you will never get away from it. It is not the country's fault that there are dumb cruel people out there.

The afct that in places like saudi arabia there are days in there wher 345 people get killed a day.Look at some us news to regain what you like about your country.Just dont start cheering for Obama, lol. http://www.foxnews.com/

Well obviously you are a sensitive person who cares about people and it's good to think murders happening in your country is bad. But, I live in the U.S. we just had a school shooting here where , I think, around 10 people died about around 20 wounded. We hear about murder alot b/c there's more people here but in the end it's still a good country b/c we makes lots of movies, and alot of computer scientists, doctors, and entertainers live here and come from here. You can find pride in your country in many places, but you pretty much have no choice but to take the good with the bad.

well, idk what you should do, but your lucky you don't live in the U.S. like i do, or you would be constantly and severely upset all the time. cheers.

If it bothers you, why do you go looking for it on the net?

Look up things on the net that make you feel good about your country.

It is okay to have feelings of sadness about that part of humanity which doesn't live by the laws of man or God. But don't wallow in it or think it reflects on the country you live in.

Oddly enough, there are people who look for negativity. If they can't find it in their OWN lives, they look for it in their community. If things in the community look pretty good... they look for things going wrong at the state level.... etc.

If this is you, just be greatful that you don't have much amiss in your own life and neighborhood.

forget about it, because there isn't total peace in any country
