All OCD sufferers please repond!?!

Question: I think I have OCD, ever since I could remember I always had to line up my teddy bears from smallest to largest, I had to line up my crayons from lightest to darkest and I would always get catchy music stuck in my head, for weeks on time, all this happened when I was 2-7, I didn't really even think much of it since I was very small, the symptoms seemed to dissipate for years I had very little, just an obsession with numbers, but the light a strike of lightening, (this January, I am almost 20 now) I had a panic attack after a lot of stress and started hearing music in my head non stop like when I was a child (I don't hear voices or any symptoms of Schizophrenia), I also have a fear of harming others, and losing control or being not like myself, I also have to line up my books from smallest to largest, well my question is, to those who suffer from this terrible disease, what medicines/therapy/anything have helped you? I am in such agony! All knowledgeable answers are appreciate

i have had ocd since i was 7 and i'm 44 now. you do have it. and it can be greatly controlled. heres how i controlled my OCD, and it has caused me all sorts of problems in my life. i bacame an alcoholic for 14 years due to the anxiety from my OCD. my obsessing with only eating certain foods have caused me to occasionally be anorexic. i've been alcohol and drug free for 13 years now. don't drink or do drugs because this will only make your OCD worse. especially as you come down form substances because of the anxiety and stress that is associated with the comedown. coke and uppers will fuel your OCD severely and stay away from caffiene because this will also fuel your OCD. i am white knuckling it now as far as not taking any meds for my OCD, but i have learned to cut out stress in my life at a very good rate. don't get worked up about things. this will cause your stress and anxiety level to rise and severely impact your OCD symptoms. I should go on meds because when i took 100 milligrams of Luvox my OCD symptoms were reduced by 70%. i also learned to drink caffiene free teas at night and sometimes when i feel a bit anxious I will add cava cava or Valerian root to my tea. I will even at times take melatonin to help me relax at night. i even learned to practice ignoring my OCD when it demands that I perform rituals. It's hard to do at first, but when you ignore the obsessions by not giving in and performing these rituals, the OCD will greatly subside. over a few months time of ignoring rituals it will become easier and easier to not do this. Then it will become more of a maintainence for you to not do rituals. The strength of the OCD symptoms will now greatly reduce. I also learned to do rituals in my mind so I don't look funny to other people doing strange movements. you can learn to get a handle on this. as i got into my teens i was able to hide my symptoms from others by shifting focus of the rituals being performed in my mind. after you have shifted this focus then you realize that you can control, ignore and cut down on your symptoms. good luck.

ocd is a really wild and wicked disorder, is it not? cut down on stress and work on ignoring your ocd, when you get the impulse to do a ritual like shake your hands or touch something, don't. and say to your ocd, "i know thats just you ocd and your not gonna disrupt my life" focus your mind elsewhere so you can shake the anxiety of not doing a ritual. it gets easier to ignore over short time.

You have to be careful. Alcohol, for me relaxes the OCD urges.

prozac -2 -40mg. = 80 mg a day.

B complex vitamins , fish oil and tryptophan . I don't have it but my son does. Doctor recomended those as a natural alternative to medicine. Good luck and hope that helps! :)

I used to have it so bad that i used to check my bed sheets over ever night to make sure they were clean, i pulled the cover off the doona the sheets off the bed and everything, i washed my hands so much they would bleed and if there was so much as one peice of fluff on my floors i would vacuum again. I broke my habbits when i got terribly sick and could not keep it up, i also had a daughter so keeping things so clean was no longer an option, im sorry to say that i do not know of any medical treatments for it as i was never treated! good luck to you though

You really should go see a psychiatrist. There are plenty of medications that can help you. paxil, prozac, xanax. Just get a good diagnosis and you will be able to get better.

This is not always a "terrible disease" you can use it to your advantage, look at it as a talent for aesthetics and balance. It can be an asset to see the world differently , some careers require the skill and focus you've been blessed with.Embrace it , find an outlet for it in organization. Therapy will help to alleviate some of the negatives. Good Luck.

...professional help, get in there... the sooner the better...nobody here has the credentials(verifiable) to do much more than give shade tree advice or talk about their experience...and, everyone is different, so, good luck and get help, real professional help, quickly...today if possible..good luck and get well.

I suffered from OCD from the age of 5-6 to almost 22. I started seeing a counselor and doing alot more artwork.(if your even a halfway diesent artist try doing more)......
Anyways, I've seen many different ones since then and certain ones seem to pull out different bad things and release you of different feelings.... Or at least they did me. I feel your pain and the panick attack is something nobody caould ever fathom unless they have had one.
Maybe a psycologist first. I seen one after i seen a counselor, but just be educated and aware of whatever drugs some one perscribes you. going on, then quickly off certain drugs will catipult you to another panick attack, depression, or something else ..... Dont be scared, embarresed, or withdrawn at all. Make an appointment and if need be, cry like a baby like i did when you get there. good luck.

You might consider 'art therapy'......But be conscience, avoiding the 'big/medium/small' in the art. If you develop the art and avoid the compulsion, it might help you with ridding yourself of the disorder with regular household objects.

As to your 'incident' and/or other neurosis (could it have come from a lack of sleep for several days?) It was an 'incident' and realize that (even if it was embarrasing). High stress and lack of sleep will cause this, So forgive yourself.

You should also consider that meds might not help your condition as sometimes doctors like the drug representitive more than the patient. You know....They like to see a return customer right? If anything....avoid using any addicting drugs such as Zanex.

Clonidine is an excelent way to lower your blood pressure and calm you down rather quickly in a crisis situation. Its not addicting, you dont have to take it everyday, and it is one of the cheapest drugs. ( I think last time I got a bottle of 20 for around $7 or $8 bucks without insurance)....:)

I was diagnosed with OCD three years ago after years and years of suffering. It is EXTREMELY difficult, and after reading your description,I believe you may have it too. What you need to do is see a good therapist who can help diagnose you. There are two types of treatment; medication and behavioral therapy (although you can do both). It depends on the person as to what works and what doesn't. For me personally, the behavioral therapy was too difficult at first, but after going on some medication, the therapy became easier. Many antidepressants treat OCD. Although it IS absolutely agony, I want you to know that there IS help out there, and getting it will probably be the best thing you ever do.
